ARLINGTON, VA (June 25, 2007) - Four post-secondary heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration (HVACR) programs have earned national accreditation through the Partnership for Heating, Ventilation, Air-Conditioning, and Refrigeration Accreditation (PAHRA) program. Two post-secondary programs' PAHRA accreditations were reaffirmed.
The newly accredited HVACR programs are at the following institutions: Mount San Antonio College, Walnut, Calif. Oakton Community College, Des Plaines, Ill. Community College of Southern Nevada, Henderson, Nev. Gwinnett Technical College, Lawrenceville, Ga.
Reaccreditation was earned by the following institutions: Linn State College of Technology, Linn, Mo. Delaware Technical and Community College, Georgetown, Del.
Accreditation from PAHRA certifies that the HVACR programs at these institutions have exceeded a national standard of excellence for HVACR education in areas of residential air conditioning and heating, light commercial air conditioning and heating, and commercial refrigeration.
The programs are evaluated based on industry-established standards that cover the quality of instruction, curriculum, students, faculty and the facility. The accreditation process includes extensive self-study, submission of a program report, a site visit conducted by peer reviewers and an accreditation decision made by a national committee. PAHRA is the only HVACR accreditation program that is validated by representatives from each major HVACR trade association. It is available to all HVACR training programs, whether they are secondary, post secondary, public or private. It was created for the purpose of establishing national educational standards for accrediting HVACR programs. Since the program's launch in January 2001, 42 schools have received PAHRA accreditation.
PAHRA is supported by the Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration Institute (ARI), the Air Conditioning Contractors of America (ACCA), the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), the Council of Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration Educators (CARE), the Gas Appliance Manufacturers Association (GAMA), the Heating, Airconditioning & Refrigeration Distributors International (HARDI), North American Technician Excellence (NATE), and the Plumbing Heating Cooling Contractors-National Association (PHCC).
