F. E. Moran Fire Protection, Inc.

Northbrook, IL, 60062
USA

Press release date: April 10, 2012

Northbrook, IL - Fire Protection Industries, New Jersey Division and F.E. Moran Special Hazard Systems are devoted to protecting plants against transformer fires. With anywhere between 250,000 to 400,000 volts transporting through a transformer at any given time, transformers are innately a fire risk with sweeping effects to production, plant equipment, and people.

Transformer fires can ignite for several reasons including weather, outages, lack of maintenance, or overuse. While transformer fires are rare, one in five transformer failures results in a fire, they can cause catastrophic consequences. The fires often destroy the transformer itself, damage surrounding equipment and structures, and cause outages in the community. It is imperative to have an updated transformer deluge system to ensure the safety of nearby equipment, structures, and people.

While transformer fires do not occur often, when they do, the effect is far-reaching without adequate fire protection solutions. Deluge systems use open nozzles to drench the fire. Richard Battista, General Manager of Fire Protection Industries said, "Transformer deluge systems are an extremely effective means of minimizing damage to equipment as well as surrounding areas where combustibles may exist or plant personnel may be working."

To protect a transformer when it fails, Fire Protection Industries will evaluate and create a custom design for a new deluge system or configure the existing system for a retrofit update. The installation can begin immediately, with little impact on plant production. Prefabrication of the new system is shipped quickly while labor is dispatched for expedited removal of the existing deluge system. Fire Protection Industries will remain present throughout the duration of the installation to coordinate on-site needs. This culminates into a swift installation and immediate fire protection for a facility's transformer.

The New Jersey division of Fire Protection Industries provides comprehensive fire protection solutions for commercial, industrial, and institutional facilities, now expanding to support fossil and nuclear plants with F.E. Moran Special Hazard Systems in the power plant industry. Extensive knowledge of NFPA codes and skilled design methodologies provide customers with dependable, turnkey fire protection solutions. Fire Protection Industries has been trusted for over thirty years to provide expert knowledge, safety, and solutions in the fire protection industry.
