Fire Fighting Enterprises Smoke Detectors Protect Hindu Temple

Fireray 5000 installed in BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir & Cultural Center

Erlanger, Kentucky – A system of Fireray 5000 optical beam smoke detectors from Fire Fighting Enterprises (FFE) has been chosen for the Hindu temple (mandir) of the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir & Cultural Center in Chino, Calif. The large, high-ceilinged facility features extremely ornate stonework, making the motorized, auto aligning and self correcting beam smoke detector an ideal and aesthetically pleasing choice.

In Hinduism, the construction of dazzling, beautiful mandirs is considered to be a great expression of profound spiritual faith. The BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir follows this tradition, describing its 16,000 square foot temple as “graceful poetry in stone.” While this tradition, and the artistry of the stone carving completed on-site, are rooted in the past, the temple also had to meet modern standards for fire safety. Saf-Com Supply, Inc. of San Dimas, Calif., recommended FFE’s Fireray, which covers wide areas with fewer detector heads, protecting the space without detracting from its beauty. The detector heads, installed by Arroyo One Alarm, Co., of La Puente, Calif., were able to be built directly into the walls, blending seamlessly.

Designed expressly for use in wide open indoor spaces, the Fireray 5000 only requires a small number of units to cover very large areas – decreasing the time, cost and complexity of installation and lessening any aesthetic impact. Each detector head beam can be fully adjusted, controlled and annually tested from the low-level system controller. The detectors have a built in Laser Pointer which simplifies prism placement.

Each detector head beam can be fully adjusted, controlled and annually tested from the low-level system controller. The detectors have a built in Laser Pointer which simplifies prism placement. The reduction in time of alignment and setup lowers installation time and labor costs. Enhanced communications circuits from the controller to the detector head eliminate the need for more costly shielded cable. With only one controller for two heads, the Fireray 5000’s current draw has been reduced to between 5.5 and 8mA, also saving on operating costs over the life of the system.

The Fireray 5000 will provide the mandir with low maintenance over the long term. Its AGC (Automatic Gain Compensation) monitors and reacts to environmental changes such as dust accumulation. An Auto-Optimize feature automatically self corrects, ensuring alignment of the infra-red beam with the reflective prism, even in the event of gradual building settling.
