Press release date: September 16, 2008

UNIVERSITY PARK, Ill., Sept. 16 - Federal Signal Corporation's Safety and Security Systems Group, a leader in advancing security and well-being, announced today that Fayetteville State University in Fayetteville, North Carolina, has deployed a comprehensive Federal Signal campus safety and security system to alert students, faculty and staff in the event of unsafe weather or dangerous campus conditions.

With more than 6,000 students, faculty and staff on campus, Fayetteville State University identified a mission-critical need for campus wide alerting to keep people safe and secure. The Federal Signal campus safety and security solution includes an electronic Federal Signal digital siren network that can produce tone-alerts and voice announcements heard throughout the campus community. The siren network is controlled by an integrated Federal Signal siren encoder that enables secure and reliable siren activation by campus safety officials.

The siren can plug into Federal Signal's Codespear-enabled industry platform to enable simultaneous activation of sirens and alerting to cell phones, landline phones, radios, PDA's, pagers, e-mail addresses and other indoor warning devices. This unique safety and security platform provides distributed instant messaging and scenario management architecture that features instant scalability, redundancy and automated fail-over features.

"You want to have as many layers of notification as possible," said Travis Bryant, public safety director for Fayetteville State University. "Campus safety is a top priority at Fayetteville State."

"Campus safety and security continues to be a top-of-mind concern for campus leaders, and Federal Signal offers a robust combination of interoperable communications software and hardware to extend alerting across campus communities," said Gregory A. Sink, vice president of municipal and government systems at Federal Signal's Public Safety Systems Division. "Federal Signal is proud to help Fayetteville State University leverage the latest in campus safety and security technology."

More than 100 colleges and universities have deployed safety and security systems from Federal Signal's Public Safety Systems Division. For more information please visit http://www.federalsignal.com/campussafety.
