New Edition of Comprehensive Metal Fabrication Training Resource Available

ROCKFORD, Ill., - The Fabricators & Manufacturers Association (FMA) now offers an updated version of its popular and comprehensive metal fabrication training resource. The third edition of Metal Fabrication - A Practical Guide serves as the basis for a comprehensive training curriculum in metal fabrication, and is ideal for use in classroom and on-the-job instruction programs.

The book covers shop mathematics, blueprint reading, metallurgy, layout methods for precision fabrication, shop safety section and basic machine operations. New to the edition are topics on laser cutting and waterjet cutting, an expanded section on plasma cutting, and review questions at the end of each chapter.

According to the authors, the book responds to the deficiency in the availability of trained and competent skilled workers in the manufacturing sector that has caused many firms to take on the task of educating and training their own workforces.

"The basic techniques presented throughout the text give students and trainees both theoretical knowledge and an understanding and appreciation of the newer technologies found in today's manufacturing environment," said Robert O'Con, co-author. "This resource also enables start-up ventures to begin operating by providing instruction in the use of basic hand- and power-operated equipment and tooling."

The book is available to FMA members for $50 or non-members for $62.50 and can be ordered from the FMA website www.fmastore.org/Default.aspx or by calling 815-399-8775.
