Extreme Narrow Band Filter Characterization

At LMSAL, solar physicist, Dr. Thomas Berger, uses the high resolution McPherson spectrometer system with a scientific CCD and heliostat in order to measure, characterize, and document the spectral characteristics of narrow-band Lyot filters designed and built at Lockheed.

McPherson, Inc. (Chelmsford, MA USA), a manufacturer of spectrometers that are used to measure and tune specific wavelengths of light, was contracted to furnish a high resolution, long focal length spectrometer to Lockheed Martin Solar and Astrophysics Laboratory. LMSAL is a department of the Lockheed Martin Advanced Technology Center (ATC) in Palo Alto, California, and manned by a group of scientists and engineers who design, build, and operate solar and astrophysical observing instruments.

McPherson, Inc. (Chelmsford, MA USA) manufactures a variety of instruments that measure and tune specific wavelengths of light for many disciplines of spectroscopy. The company is proud of its ongoing role in building and delivering research instrumentation to domestic and international universities and research laboratories for more than 50 years.
