Press release date: December 2, 2010

Oslo, Norway, December 2nd, 2010 - Energy Micro, the energy friendly microcontroller company, has announced the appointment of Oyvind Grotmol as VP of Simplicity. Supporting the company's aim of dramatically reducing MCU system complexity and development times, Oyvind will head up the evolution of Energy Micro's software tools, code libraries and development kits, including the recently announced Simplicity Studio(TM), and RF protocol stacks for the upcoming Energy Friendly Radio (EFR®) products.

Grotmol moves to Energy Micro from Medallia, Inc., where he was Director of Research and Innovation, building a market-leading SaaS platform including OLAP, data mining and visualisation, and text analytics technology. He relocates from Sunnyvale, California to Energy Micro's Oslo, Norway headquarters.

Oyvind previously developed patented technology for hardware data compression for Tandberg Storage and won the Microelectronics Award from the Norwegian Microelectronics Forum and the industry magazine Elektronikk for his thesis written at NVIDIA. He has won medals in the International Mathematical Olympiad, the International Physics Olympiad, and the ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest World Finals, and holds an MSEE from NTNU in Trondheim, Norway

Grotmol said, "Energy Micro's software and tools have already proven that a clear focus on efficiency, intuitiveness and usability has a profound impact on the time it takes to develop an energy sensitive microcontroller based product. Our mission is to build the world's best, fastest and easiest to use embedded development platform - one that maximises simplicity!"

"We will look holistically at our customers' development process and will go further in helping them in areas that microcontroller companies traditionally have not considered their responsibility. I look forward to furthering this mission and helping the industry find new ways of innovating and reducing time to market."

Energy Micro President and CEO Geir Førre, said, "Our promise to the market has always been two-fold; to produce a microcontroller capable of using the least possible power and to support it with a tools environment that's as simple as possible to use. We're very proud that someone of Oyvind's international reputation has joined us to help further our cause."

The ultra low power EFM®32 Gecko microcontrollers' comprehensive development environment comprises Energy Micro's own energyAware(TM) software tools and code libraries, development kits and a broad range of third party IDE/compiler, debug adapter, programmer and RTOS products.
