The Siemens Drive Technologies Division will be using this year's Hanover Fair as a platform to showcase the considerable progress made in its strategic three-pronged integration approach. "We are creating a seamless drive train, integrating it into the Siemens automation world Totally Integrated Automation, and tying this into the relevant customer application. This allows us to offer our customers a range of unique benefits in respect of energy efficiency, reliability and productivity", explained Drive Technologies Division CEO Klaus Helmrich at the pre-show press conference. "Our extensive industry-specific expertise allows us to effectively transfer the benefits of integrated technologies to the application level", continued Helmrich.

Siemens has achieved an outstanding position both through its own internal development and by making a series of strategic acquisitions to complete its portfolio in the field of drive engineering. Siemens Drive Technologies is fully in command of the complete drive train: Alongside motors and inverters, with the addition of gearboxes and motion control systems the Division is able to offer a coordinated portfolio covering all the important drive train components. Integrating the drive train as an integral component of Totally Integrated Automation (TIA) places Siemens customers in a powerful position. For Klaus Helmrich, this comprehensive offering forms the basis for optimum customer solutions: "Although the use of efficient motors and matching inverters can go a long way towards achieving energy savings in an application, it is only with a solution encompassing the whole of the drive train that maximum energy efficiency can be achieved". Helmrich stressed that 60 per cent of energy savings gained in modern energy efficiency applications are achieved through the intelligent combination of components rather than by the components themselves.

Logically therefore, the three-pronged integration approach pays dividends not only in terms of energy efficiency but also as regards productivity and reliability. Helmrich: "It is only with a sound technological command of the whole process and production workflow coupled with in-depth knowledge of the specific field of industry that a supplier can truly generate value for its customers." This is where the Division may claim not only extensive experience and expertise of its own, but also comprehensive know-how through interaction with the entire Siemens portfolio.

The Division will be present at the Hanover Fair with a series of innovations to underpin its threepronged integration approach - including the new Flender standard industrial gearboxes, various additions to the energy-efficient low-voltage motor portfolio, new products in its servomotor offering and new engineering tools. Klaus Helmrich referred in this context to the "DT Configurator", an outstanding new application designed to allow users to systematically arrive at the most technically suitable inverter for a specific customer application. Another example listed by the Division CEO was the StartDrive V11 software, which Siemens is currently using to integrate its inverter technology into the TIA Portal engineering framework. Helmrich considers these new products to represent further proof of Siemens' reliability as an innovator: "We are a solid and reliable partner in the business of creating sustainable success for our customers."

Siemens at the Hanover Fair 2011: In keeping with the theme "Create Sustainable Value", at booth A72 in Hall 9, Siemens will be demonstrating how economic efficiency and productivity can be reconciled with ecologically responsible industrial production. It will also be informing its customers right across the different fields of industry about how to create sustainable added value with solutions from Siemens. With its excellent product, system and solution portfolio, integral expertise and exceptionally high research and development potential, Siemens is ideally placed to provide sound customer advice. At this year's fair, issues in the spotlight will be energy efficiency and productivity, while the technological focus will be on the engineering framework Totally Integrated Automation Portal. On the subject of energy efficiency, Siemens will also show its customers how to identify, evaluate and consistently implement savings potential with a view to reducing energy consumption and cutting both carbon emissions and costs. On the issue of productivity, integral solutions ranging from the CAD drawing through to the finished product will be unveiled. At its booth in Hall 9, Siemens will demonstrate how resources can be efficiently utilized and productivity potential leveraged, starting right from the plant design through to the operating phase, featuring examples from a number of industries: automotive, oil & gas and renewable energies (wind and solar).
