Endress+Hauser Expands Production in the US

Multi-million dollar production facility for flowmeters in Indiana inaugurated
Endress+Hauser, a specialist for measurement instrumentation and automation solutions, has expanded its plant for flow measurement instrumentation in Greenwood, Indiana. The company invested more than $18 million in new production and calibration facilities for flowmeters.

At a time many manufacturers are moving production to other countries, Endress+Hauser's new flow manufacturing facility is dedicated to the manufacture and calibration of flowme-ters. "We believe in expanding our production sites around the globe to be closer to our cus-tomers all around the world," said Klaus Endress, CEO of the Endress+Hauser Group, "We see this expansion as part of our sustainable growth strategy."

"This expansion of the company's US division demonstrates Endress+Hauser's complete commitment to the North American market and its loyal customers," said Dr Gerhard Jost, Managing Director of Endress+Hauser Flowtec AG, the Group's specialists for flow mea-surement engineering.

Multi-million dollar investment touched entire flow manufacturing capability
"We have a new facility dedicated to the manufacturing and calibration of electromagnetic flowmeters where we can produce and calibrate meters with line sizes up to 48 inches. We have the largest calibration rig in the US in this facility," said Hans-Peter Blaser, General Manager of Endress+Hauser Flowtec's US Division. "This multi-million dollar investment touched our entire flow manufacturing capability in the US, Coriolis, vortex, ultrasonic and electromagnetic flowmeter production."

New calibration laboratory is the only one of its kind in North America
In addition to the large calibration rig in the electromagnetic facility, the Coriolis manufactur-ing area is equipped with a new state of the art calibration laboratory - the only one of its kind in the US. According to Blaser, "No manufacturer can calibrate Coriolis meters more accurately than Endress+Hauser, our new calibration facility sets standards worldwide." Cali-bration rigs are used to verify the measurement performance of measuring instruments using water in a test pipeline. Calibration is also used to minimize the measurement deviation. "Deviations in measurement accuracy can have a big impact for customers. Accurate mea-surement is essential to quality. If the measurement isn't accurate, the customer may waste product or expensive ingredients required in the process," says Blaser.

"Endress+Hauser is the only company that can state all our calibration rigs, around the world, are accredited by the appropriate national standards organizations, according to ISO/IEC 17025," said Gerhard Jost. All calibrated instruments meet the relevant national standards. "This means customers around the world can rely on consistently high, documented quality from Endress+Hauser, regardless of the production site," said the Managing Director.

Investment helps customers respond to American Recovery and Reinvestment Act
The availability of stimulus funds as a result of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 is generating a unique set of customer needs, especially for drinking and clean water projects. "Our customers are scheduling projects that must be completed within a very specific timeline. They need to know Endress+Hauser can deliver instruments that meet their time-line," said Blaser. "Our investment in US facilities means Endress+Hauser has the flexibility and capacity to respond to customer needs."
