Training solution improves operator skills and enables significant customer savings

AUSTIN, TEXAS (March 27, 2006) - Continuing its commitment to improving customer operational excellence, Emerson Process Management today launched the DeltaV(TM) Operator Training Solution (OTS).

DeltaV OTS is a complete simulator-based learning environment designed to prevent operator error which can result in accidents, product loss, or costly plant shutdowns. The need to prevent operator error was recently confirmed by a study of chemical manufacturers which indicated that 37% of plant incidents could be categorized by incorrect operator actions.

The new DeltaV OTS training solution will also will teach operators the necessary skills to get the most value from process automation technology. Studies have shown that improving an operator's skill level can have significant financial impact resulting from less downtime, less out-of-spec product, better use of fuel and resources, and less supervision.

DeltaV OTS is a comprehensive learning program leveraging Emerson's expertise in control systems and process automation. Developed by Emerson's Educational Services experts, the OTS is unique from other training programs in its emphasis on the total learning experience including professional lessons plans, course materials, delivery, student testing and customization to match the customers' actual plant operations. By bringing together all skillfully crafted elements of the program, Emerson has leveraged its expertise in teaching methodology to ensure a productive learning experience.

DeltaV OTS is built on Emerson's DeltaV Simulate suite of products which enables training simulators to use the identical operator interface and control configuration found in the company's actual control room. Creating an environment identical to the control room enables operators to learn and gain experience in a safe, controlled environment without risk to plant personnel or operations.

DeltaV OTS is scalable solution that can be sized to meet a customer's specific needs. For customers wanting a customized training solution on a limited budget, Emerson offers a bundled solution called DeltaV OTS Express. DeltaV OTS Express is an excellent entry point for customers wanting to train operators on control system operation and on selected high priority process units. The package includes an operator training workstation, a process simulator configured for a specific process unit, and a detailed and customized course curriculum complete with tests and professional train-the-trainer instruction. The base OTS offering can be expanded to deliver operator training for plant-wide operations.

In addition to DeltaV OTS, Emerson offers educational solutions for the process industry via classroom training, e-learning courses, and on-site training. Emerson's educational services team provides more than 300 courses and trains more than 20,000 students per year.
