Electro-Spec Brings Plating Into the 21st Century

Franklin, IN, April 13, 2011 -- Electro-Spec, Inc., one of the leading specialty plating facilities in the United States, has implemented one of the most technologically-forward production lines in the electroplating industry. These fully automated plating lines ensure high-reliability plating through use of state-of-the-art controls at all levels of the plating process. Electro-Spec integrates TQR plating line control with Gravo software for versatility and functionality throughout their operations. This technology easily accommodates a variety of parts, substrates, plates, thickness and handling methods that enable Electro-Spec to meet the demands of the most challenging plating projects.

Gravo 8 is the first HMI automation software for Plating Lines that allows operators to view, control, and manage production operations in real time while also providing the capability to collect, analyze and report on plant floor information. Operators have a continuous full overview of the production lines - they can see transporters moving and check levels, manually control the transporter from the operator terminal, and be instantly advised of any errors, allowing them to make adjustments to drip times, temperature, overtime tolerances, rectifier specifications, dosing and much more. On-screen graphics can be displayed three-dimensionally to show the positions of the flightbars and tanks, and simply double-clicking on a tank or position quickly brings up a multitude of statistics related to the job and the position in the production sequence.

A loading sheet is used to trace and identify each load processed, and data specific to each part is stored and statistically available. Details such as time, temperature, current, and voltages are stored, and plating and process information can be directly correlated to quality control and inspections. Repeatability and traceability are part and order specific, and all data can be exported to common production databases for instant access by customers. Statistical records are kept for 5 years

"This advanced technology gives both our plating lines the capability of processing 60,000 to 80,000 jobs per year." stated Jeff Smith, President of Electro-Spec. "Precision in not only the plating of the parts, but the operation of the baths and support equipment are achieved through technologically advanced hardware and software. Statistical process information is constantly updated to spreadsheets, giving us the ability of complete accountability and traceability. Problem-solving and trouble-shooting software allows us the ability to quickly identify issues in our plating operations to prevent unnecessary delays."
