Press release date: May 4, 2009

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. ... Diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton Corporation today announced the creation of a new, four and a half-day training course entitled "Wind Turbine Fundamental Hydraulics" intended for sales and maintenance personnel requiring a solid understanding of hydraulics systems used in wind turbine operation.

"Nearly half of the utility grade wind turbines currently in service depend on hydraulic pitch and yaw controls. Many of the others use electric pitch and yaw controls but may incorporate the use of hydraulics for braking or utilize a forced lubrication system," explained Tom Blansett, manager-training services of Eaton's Hydraulics Group. "The new course will provide a solid foundation in hydraulic fundamentals and operating principles with special emphasis on wind turbine operations, including pitch and yaw control, braking, and cooling and filtration systems."

The "Wind Turbine Fundamental Hydraulics" course will focus on component construction and operation with a goal of understanding the interaction of individual components in an integrated wind turbine hydraulic system. Topics covered in the course will include:

o Hydraulic Principles and Fundamentals o Graphic Symbology o Hydraulic Fluids and Reservoirs o Gear, Vane, and Piston Pumps o Pressure Controls o Directional Controls o Flow Controls o Cylinders o Hydraulic Motors o Contamination Control o Electro-hydraulic Valves o Screw-In Cartridge Valves o Accumulators
