Eaton Corp.

Pittsburgh, PA, 15108
USA

Press release date: November 19, 2008

PITTSBURGH... Diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton Corporation today announced its membership in the Alliance for Sustainable Built Environments, a select group of industry leaders who practice and are recognized for leadership in sustainability. Eaton is the first power management company to become a member of the Alliance.

"The Alliance invited Eaton to join based on the company's commitment to protect and improve the environment not only through corporate sustainability initiatives to reduce company emissions, energy consumption and waste production, but to also encourage customers and suppliers to do the same," said Craig Zurawski, executive director, Alliance for Sustainable Built Environments. "Eaton's Electrical Group offers energy-efficient and environmentally sound electrical solutions to help customers qualify for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) credits."

Founded in 2003, the mission of the Alliance's international corporate members is to educate the marketplace and top management on the benefits of reducing the overall impact facilities have on the natural environment and on building occupants. Members include Johnson Controls, Milliken & Company, Forbo Flooring, Philips Lighting, JohnsonDiversey, Owens Corning, USG Corporation, Kohler Co. and now, Eaton.

"As a global leader in sustainability and energy efficiency, we look forward to sharing best practices with Alliance members," said John White, energy management and environmental solutions manager, Eaton's Electrical Group. "At Eaton, sustainability isn't an autonomous program or initiative. It's how we do business - and it's an increasing part of our business success. Eaton has made a public commitment to reduce its own greenhouse gas emissions by 18 percent by 2012 and was half-way toward completing its goal in 2007."

This membership announcement was made at the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) Greenbuild International Conference and Expo in Boston, Mass., Nov. 19-21. Greenbuild provides an unparalleled opportunity to connect with other green building peers, industry experts and influential leaders as they share innovations in the green building movement.

Eaton's booth (#238) will feature information about Eaton's PowerChain Management Solutions®, including power metering, uninterruptible power systems (UPSs), variable speed drives and lighting controls with the potential to contribute to 40 percent of available LEED credit points. Attendees can also review the comprehensive "LEED Credits Guide to Eaton Products and Services" that explains how Eaton can help building owners become more energy efficient and qualify for LEED certification.
