EXSYS to Spotlight New Gearbox and Vise Offerings at MMTS 2014

SAN ANTONIO, Fla. – In booth 441 at the Montreal Manufacturing Technology Show (MMTS), May 12-14 at Place Bonaventure, Montreal, Quebec, high-precision toolholding, workholding, and gear technology provider EXSYS Tool, Inc. will exhibit a selection of innovative new products including precision EPPINGER gearboxes and modular Gressel vises. Among the established EXSYS offerings on display will be the compact EPPINGER CAPTO interface and the vibration-reducing PRECI-FLEX® compensating clutch system for CNC lathes.

The full range of EPPINGER gearboxes includes bevel, planetary, hypoid and cycloidal configurations and features gear technology proven in the live toolholders also provided by EXSYS. The compact, high-transmission gearboxes are suited for a wide range of applications including machinery, automation and robotics and are engineered to meet strict demands for stiffness, performance and efficiency, and provide smooth, reliable operation.

Three innovative Gressel workpiece clamping systems will be part of the EXSYS display. Gripos modular machine vises clamp by tension rather than compression, producing no deflection of the vise baseplate, and are gradually and precisely adjustable from 10 to 100 percent gripping force. The patented actuation system, encased and protected from chips and coolant, operates with a 160-degree turn of a lever and provides mechanical amplification with complete clamping in less than a second, minimizing set-up times.

Grepos 5-axis power vises, featuring the same actuation technology as Gripos vises, provide force amplification from 0-40 kN direct on the workpiece. The vise design permits access to the both sides as well as the underside of a part, facilitating true 5-axis complete/simultaneous machining.

Solinos single-clamping vises for small workpieces are offered in mechanical or hydraulic versions and are 100 percent encased and modular with interchangeable jaws. Providing clamping force up to 20 kN, the vises can be directly integrated into pallets. Clamping range is adjustable without removal of the vise jaws, enabling quick changeovers between different parts.

The compact base holder of the EPPINGER CAPTO system accepts all standard CAPTO adapters while providing expanded room in the machine tool to accommodate larger workpieces and facilitate fast tool changeovers.

The system also improves torque transmission and rigidity, reinforcing machining accuracy.

The PRECI-FLEX compensating clutch system provides a floating coupling between turret drive motor tangs and toolholders to compensate for any misalignment and thereby reduce vibration and tool chatter. The connection is twice the size of a standard spindle, enhancing the connection’s strength and ability to transfer torque.
