EXPO PACK Mexico 2012 Takes Green Support to New Levels

o Introducing The Sustainability Pavilion

o EXPO PACK Verde Returns

o AMEE Dedicates Full Day to Sustainability

Mexico City, Mexico; - Sustainable solutions will reach new levels of prominence at EXPO PACK México 2012 (June 26-29, Centro Banamex, Mexico City), when The Sustainability Pavilion joins established programs including EXPO PACK Verde and the AMEE Conference.

"Sustainable manufacturing is not a trend, it's an industry driver," says Jose Martinez, PMMI director for Latin America. "And whether you are a consumer goods company, a retailer or an original equipment manufacturer, sustainability issues are critical to your success."

The new Sustainability Pavilion will provide a starting point for EXPO PACK México attendees seeking sustainable solutions for materials, containers and equipment as well as solutions to reduce waste, environmental impact and carbon footprints.

"Sustainable efforts go beyond the basic idea of environmentally-friendly packaging," says Martinez. "For example, a growing number of manufacturers are seeking out packaging and processing equipment that uses less power, occupies less space, reduces waste and can be easily adapted to new 'green' materials. The Sustainability Pavilion addresses such needs."

The Sustainability Pavilion stems from - and supplements - the EXPO PACK Verde program, which launched in 2010 to help attendees easily identify exhibitors showing packaging and processing solutions that support a variety of green solutions. According to PMMI, EXPO PACK Verde has been attracting more than 100 exhibitor participants per year, with participation growing annually.

"Many companies are now beginning to understand that certain sustainable practices can help them reduce costs and improve their brand image," adds Martinez, who also notes, "Some manufacturers are even strategically shifting the types of packaging they use, switching to reusable containers or using biodegradable and recycled materials such as potato- or corn-based containers. Attendees just need to look for the EXPO PACK Verde icon or visit the Sustainability Pavilion to learn about these trends and more during EXPO PACK Mexico 2012."

AMEE's Packaging Week & Conference Focus on Sustainability

The Mexican Packaging Association (AMEE) will once again host Packaging Week in conjunction with EXPO PACK México. The week-long event features conference sessions, and awards presentations, including AMEE's Sustainable Packaging Award.

AMEE plans to dedicate the first day of the conference program to sustainability, presenting speakers from Eastman Chemical Company, Wal-Mart México and The Center for Life Cycle Analysis and Sustainable Design (CADIS).

"Demands from retailers and consumers are propelling sustainability efforts, and Wal-Mart in particular has spurred this trend. Manuel Gómez Peña, Director of Sustainability for Wal-Mart México, will discuss success cases from current Wal-Mart suppliers as well as practical sustainable applications," says Martinez.
