EPS Forecasts That The Global Education & Training Content Market Will Exceed $50 Billion By 2010

London and New York, 5 August 2006

EPS forecasts that the global Education & Training content market will exceed $50 billion by 2010.

The latest edition of the EPS Education and Training Market Monitor research programme predicts that global education and training content revenues for North America and European content providers will grow 35% from 2005 through 2010 (a CAGR of 6%).

The report includes detailed reporting of 2005 results across the Education and Training industries and also includes detailed analysis and expert opinions on the outlook for the market, industry strategies and emerging players.

Findings of the 59-page report include:

· Publicly-traded Education and Training publishers grew by 8.7% in their reported currencies in 2005, bringing the total market to $38.6 million; aggregate profit margins held steady at 25%.

· The leading E&T providers all posted stronger sales results in 2005 over 2004.

· Kaplan grew revenue fastest: 25% overall, including acquisitions (and 13% excluding acquisitions).

· Both Pearson and McGraw-Hill posted double digit growth (11-13%) over 2004.

· Harcourt Education posted the smallest increase (3% USD, 4% in local currency) as disappointing performance in supplemental and testing/assessments markets offset strong basal results.

· Renaissance Learning achieved the highest operating margin at 30%, followed by Wiley Higher Education (25%) and Scholastic Educational Publishing (20%).

· Two-thirds of listed providers reported increased margins over 2004.

· The market is turning toward comprehensive programs rather than individual purchase of stand-alone or niche components.

· The demand for comprehensive solutions will ultimately drive new rounds of formal and/or informal consolidation within the marketplace.

"This full-year analysis confirms the impact of underlying growth drivers such as a strong cycle in the US adoption states, the impact of the new emphasis on school accountability for performance against standards, increasing acceptance of e-learning modalities, and continuing strong demand for corporate training programs", said Steve Sieck, EPS Managing Partner - US and director of the Market Monitor programme. "These trends should continue, but educational publishers will also face considerable challenges, especially in higher education markets where the traditional textbook model is increasingly broken, and digital and custom approaches have yet to bear real fruit."
