Today the control panel manufacturing industry is facing many challenges that are often characterized by tight deadlines, price pressures and a high level of fixed costs for housing, electrical equipment, packaging and wages. Small lot sizes and one-offs pose a special challenge when striving for efficient production. This industry is very labor intensive with few options to automate their processes. Many of these processes are performed manually including engineering, laying out, punching and drilling back panels and enclosures; cutting to length, stripping crimping and labeling wires, installing components and wiring panels.

With EPLAN's Electric P8 (schematic design software) and EPLAN's Pro Panel (3D control panel design software), users are able to automate many of the mundane tasks involved in control panel design and also produce accurate data for ensuing manufacturing processes. This EPLAN Platform is database driven and object-orientated which ensures that any changes made are automatically reflected consistently throughout the entire project and in all output documentation, even when multiple engineers are working on the same project. Also EPLAN's Data Portal, that currently has 51 manufacturers and over 350,000 parts, adds to the accuracy of the design process. Rittal, Rockwell Automation and Panduit are some of the manufacturers on the Data Portal that add value to the Control Panel industry. The EPLAN Platform also incorporates the 3D assembly construction for the electrical and fluid configuration of control cabinets, virtual 3D wiring and provision of NC data that can directly send the electronic data to the Kiesling CNC machine and/or KomaxWire's Wire processing machines. The EPLAN Platform connects control configuration and 3D control cabinet assembly directly with one another. Consistent data exchange increases project quality and accelerates the entire engineering process on a sustainable basis.
