EMC Unveils Economical and Easy-to-Use Storage Solutions for Midsize Companies

HOPKINTON, Mass., Feb. 20 / -- EMC Corporation (NYSE:EMC), the world leader in information infrastructure solutions, today announced several cost-effective and easy-to-use solutions to help its customers more effectively consolidate, back up, archive and protect their information.

EMC introduced the EMC(R) CLARiiON(R) CX3-10 UltraScale(TM) networked storage system, a new entry point into its market-leading series of full 4Gb/s storage arrays; new EMC RecoverPoint(TM)/SE software, an entry point for network-based asynchronous replication in mid-tier storage environments; and three solutions to help midsize businesses consolidate, back up, archive and protect their Microsoft SQL Server 2005, Microsoft Exchange 2003 and Oracle RAC 10g environments.

Barbara Robidoux, EMC's Vice President of Storage Product Marketing, said, "We are committed to simplifying the most important storage-related processes for our customers. For many companies, Oracle and Microsoft applications are the heart of the business, and we are further helping them by combining the market-leading CLARiiON CX3 platform with fully validated, proven solutions and EMC blueprints that allow partners and customers to easily deploy an information infrastructure."

EMC CLARiiON CX3-10 FC/iSCSI SYSTEM

An entry point into the market-leading EMC CLARiiON CX3 UltraScale series of full 4Gb/s networked storage systems, the new CLARiiON CX3-10 system can scale to 30TB of capacity. It features combined Fibre Channel and iSCSI connectivity within the same array, providing customers with maximum deployment flexibility and highly efficient storage consolidation. Customers deploying networked storage for the first time can use iSCSI for applications such as Microsoft Exchange and can use Fibre Channel for more bandwidth- intensive applications such as data warehouses built on Oracle or Microsoft SQL Server.

The new CLARiiON CX3-10 FC/iSCSI system joins the CX3-20, CX3-40 and CX3-80 models in supporting all CLARiiON array-based software functionality, including data management, replication and mobility. The CLARiiON CX3-10 system also inherits all of the ease-of-use capabilities of the EMC Navisphere(TM) management software including Navisphere Task Bar, Navisphere Quality of Service Manager and Virtual LUN technology. With the CLARiiON CX3- 10 system, customers are able to mix Fibre Channel and SATA disk drives in the same array to meet tiered storage requirements or deploy an all-SATA configuration for a low-cost entry point with maximum capacity.

EMC RecoverPoint/SE Software -- Affordable Asynchronous Replication for EMC CLARiiON Systems in Windows Environments

The new EMC RecoverPoint/SE software is part of the RecoverPoint family and specifically designed for network-based replication between any two CLARiiON CX and/or CLARiiON CX3 UltraScale systems. This data protection solution provides customers with any point-in-time recovery of their data from events including database corruption, server failures, software errors, viruses, end-user errors and other events that can take down the operations of an entire data center or IT facility.

With RecoverPoint/SE, CLARiiON customers can define policies to manage their recovery time objectives across a wide range of key business applications, all from a single, easy-to-use interface. Customers enjoy ongoing cost savings are realized through the optional RecoverPoint/SE WAN bandwidth compression module that can deliver up to ten times bandwidth reduction across long-distance WAN connections. In addition, RecoverPoint/SE offers coordinated and consistent recovery of related Windows applications such as Microsoft Exchange and SQL Server, enabling organizations to restart applications from the same point in time, resulting in a simpler and faster return to normal operations.

EMC Reference Architectures and Assessment Services for Microsoft Exchange 2003 and Microsoft SQL Server 2005

The EMC Reference Architectures and Assessment Services for Microsoft Exchange 2003 and Microsoft SQL Server 2005 provide EMC partners with documented blueprints and best practices for implementing the most cost- effective consolidation, backup and disaster recovery solutions for midsize customers. The EMC solution for Exchange 2003 also helps EMC partners deliver proven archiving solutions to help midsize customers manage information growth. The solutions combine the EMC CLARiiON CX3 networked storage system and combinations of EMC's industry-leading information management software for backup/recovery, archiving and data protection. These EMC best practices also address how to incorporate important Microsoft application functionality to complete the solution.

EMC Reference Architecture and Assessment Service for Oracle RAC 10g

The EMC Reference Architecture and Assessment Service for Oracle RAC 10g helps EMC partners speed deployments and improve their customers' total cost of ownership while helping them easily and affordably consolidate, backup, and protect information. These solutions combine the EMC CLARiiON CX3 networked storage system, EMC's rich replication and backup/recovery software with relevant Oracle technologies. The EMC Assessment for Oracle RAC10g helps EMC partners customize and optimize each solution for different application and database workloads and enhance ease of deployment by leveraging documented EMC best practices and methodologies.

Tony Asaro, Enterprise Strategy Group Senior Analyst, said, "The needs of mid-size businesses are no different than their larger counterparts, what is different is the amount of time, energy and money they can put into IT projects, and EMC is addressing all three with its new hardware, software and solution blueprints. ESG research recently surveyed 511 IT professionals and found that a large number of early and planned iSCSI adopters want both FC and iSCSI supported within the same storage system. The CLARiiON CX3-10 will be sold with FC and iSCSI as standard connectivity, which is further evidence that EMC envisions the CLARiiON family as a SAN inclusion environment - where regardless of the protocol, customers are encouraged and aided in achieving the benefits of networked storage."
