EMC Extends Innovation for VMware Environments

Announces Application Solutions for VMware Deployments; Outlines Planned Support of VMware Site Recovery Manager

CANNES, France, Feb. 26 - EMC Corporation (NYSE:EMC), the world leader in information infrastructure solutions, today announced extended capabilities for VMware Infrastructure environments with unique, tested storage solutions for key applications including Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft Exchange, Oracle, and SAP. These solutions enable customers to enjoy greater business and operational value of their EMC® and VMware virtualization environments.

Leveraging its extensive applications expertise, EMC has defined optimized application and storage solution configurations, assured interoperability and fully documented complete deployment best practices for Microsoft SQL Server 2005, Microsoft Exchange 2007, Oracle 10g and 11g, and SAP environments to provide quick and simplified implementation in advanced VMware infrastructures. These application solutions have been tested and documented at broad workloads in VMware Infrastructure 3.5 environments to enable deployments that meet customer expectations for application-level performance, backup and recovery, remote replication, high availability and manageability. As a result, joint EMC and VMware customers can more rapidly achieve the cost- reduction and flexibility of VMware environments in less time and with less effort.

"The industry has recognized that VMware is changing the computing landscape. Now, the race is on to provide customers a fast path to VMware's proven advantages," said Chuck Hollis, Vice President and Global Marketing Chief Technology Officer for EMC. "EMC has taken the next step by doing the solution validation work for our customers and partners to make sure they get predictable results in common application environments each and every time."

Key product components of EMC's application solution capabilities include:

o iSCSI, NFS and Fibre Channel storage configurations optimized for
advanced VMware virtualization environments, including EMC Celerra®
NS20 multi-protocol storage systems.
o Advanced data de-duplication backup optimized for VMware virtualization
software using VMware VCB and EMC Avamar®.
o Integration of VMware Distributed Resource Scheduler (DRS) and storage
priority tools to deliver full end-to-end (CPU, memory and I/O) QoS for
mission-critical virtual machines.
o Application-Integrated replication leveraging Exchange, SQL Server,
Oracle, and other application interfaces -- completely supported in
VMware environments using EMC Replication Manager.
o Storage resource management that leverages VMware Virtual Center APIs
to build complete end-to-end physical-to-virtual maps, topologies and
performance views environments -- without agents -- using EMC
ControlCenter® software.
o Business Continuity and data protection enabled by RecoverPoint and
VMware VMotion.

Additionally, EMC has continued to deliver against its commitment to fully support the forthcoming VMware Site Recovery Manager by enabling its integration with EMC's broad portfolio of remote replication products including EMC SRDF®, EMC MirrorView®, EMC Celerra Replicator(TM), and EMC RecoverPoint.

"The joint engineering work that EMC and VMware are doing helps customers get the most value out of their deployments. We are focused on optimizing our joint solutions and supporting each other's products," said Parag Patel, Vice President, Alliances at VMware. "EMC's early adopter support for VMware Site Recovery Manager is another proof point that the two companies are committed to bringing new technology and solutions to customers that simplify disaster recovery, datacenter optimization and virtual desktop management. These new solutions will enable customers to deploy mission-critical applications on VMware virtualization software alongside EMC products with ease and reliability."

"Server virtualization adoption and growth is requiring companies to have the foresight to carefully consider infrastructure design decisions that will best support virtualization initiatives. As a result, EMC is ramping its broad storage portfolio to capitalize on the server virtualization market," said Mark Bowker, Analyst, Enterprise Strategy Group. "The extensive engineering work EMC has done with the VMware platform provides added assurance for customers as they rapidly adopt EMC solutions in VMware environments."

EMC solutions optimized for key applications are available to EMC customers and partners. Integration of EMC remote replication products with VMware Site Recovery Manager will be completed when VMware Site Recovery Manager is generally available.
