Dynamic Testing of Soil and Rock is subject of an ASTM symposium.

April 11, 2012 - Scheduled for June 28-29, symposium on Dynamic Testing of Soil and Rock: Field and Laboratory will consist of presentations dealing with laboratory testing using bender elements, resonant column torsional shear, cyclic direct simple shear, piezoelectric crystals, and cyclic triaxial equipment. There will also be presentations on field tests using down hole seismic, lightweight deflectometer. Interpretation of data will be discussed and comparisons will be made to laboratory test results.

W. CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa., -A symposium on Dynamic Testing of Soil and Rock: Field and Laboratory, will be held June 28-29 at the Sheraton San Diego in San Diego, Calif. Sponsored by ASTM International Committee D18 on Soil and Rock, the symposium will be held in conjunction with the June standards development meetings of the committee.

The symposium will consist of a number of presentations dealing with laboratory testing using the following equipment: Bender Elements, Resonant Column Torsional Shear, Cyclic Direct Simple Shear, Piezoelectric Crystals and Cyclic Triaxial. This testing was performed on a variety of materials: marine sediments, sand, gravel, rock, cemented sand, polymer, fly ash, unsaturated materials and electro-osmosis chemically treated clay.

In addition there will be presentations on field tests using down hole seismic, lightweight deflectometer. The interpretation of the data will be discussed and comparisons will be made to laboratory test results.
