DuPont Adds Colors, Greater Recycled-Content to the Corian® Terra Collection

Collection Now Includes 33 Colors, with Five Colors with at Least 20 Percent Pre-Consumer Recycled Content

Wilmington, Del. - The DuPont(TM) Corian® Terra Collection, a growing selection of solid surfaces made by DuPont with recycled materials, has been expanded to include 33 colors, with five colors now having at least 20 percent pre-consumer, recycled resin content - a claim that is certified by Scientific Certification Systems (SCS).

With the addition of the SCS certification DuPont(TM) Corian® solid surface may play an even greater role in helping achieve various levels of Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) certification. The Terra Collection can help contribute to the points needed for a building to earn Materials and Resources (MR) Credit for Recycled Content. All Corian® colors can help contribute to LEED® points for MR Building Reuse, MR Materials Reuse, MR Regional Materials, Environmental Quality (EQ) Low Emitting Materials - Adhesives and Sealants.

The 33-color Terra Collection offers three levels of recycled content, including five colors with at least 20 percent pre-consumer recycled resin content (White Jasmine, Rice Paper, Raffia, Silver Birch and Dove), 17 colors have at least 13 percent pre-consumer recycled resin content and a group of 11 colors are made with a minimum of six percent pre-consumer recycled resin content. The recycled content includes waste materials, such as imperfect sheets, which are redirected from the waste stream during the manufacturing process, ground as particulates and reutilized as material for new sheets of DuPont(TM) Corian® solid surface.

"The Terra Collection was expanded in response to today's residential and commercial building marketplace needs," Tom H. Perich, DuPont Surfaces North American Marketing Manager, said. "The SCS certification confirms that what DuPont says about the Terra Collection is accurate that certain DuPont(TM) Corian® colors contain pre-consumer recycled resin content, which may offer customers solutions to help achieve sustainable design goals."

Other characteristics of Corian® solid surface that contribute to sustainable design include its durability and ability to be renewed and repaired to its original appearance. Moreover, the material can be removed, re-cut and reinstalled as a new design, or seamlessly reworked into new applications. DuPont(TM) Corian® solid surface, can be used in a variety of residential and commercial applications; it is nonporous and with proper cleaning does not promote the growth of mold, mildew or bacteria. All Corian® colors are GREENGUARD Indoor Air Quality Certified®, NSF/ANSI 51 Certified for food contact and all are Class I (A) fire rated.
