DuPont Acquires IsoTherming(TM) Technology for Refining with Less Environmental Impact

Provides Oil Refiners a Faster and Less Expensive Way to Produce Cleaner Fuels

WILMINGTON, Del., Aug. 30 /-- DuPont (NYSE:DD) today announced it has acquired from Process Dynamics, Inc., certain business assets including the intellectual property of IsoTherming(TM) Technology, a leading technology used to dramatically reduce sulfur in motor fuels. Financial terms were not disclosed.

"DuPont is committed to delivering sustainable science-based services and solutions to help petroleum refiners respond to difficult sulfur-related and clean fuel challenges," DuPont Clean Technologies Business Director James S. Pawloski said. "Because IsoTherming(TM) Technology provides a faster and less expensive way for refiners to make cleaner fuel, this acquisition will further strengthen this emerging business as it grows to become a leader in providing integrated environmental solutions for the refining industry."

Today, petroleum refiners use sulfuric acid as a catalyst in alkylation and handle crude oil with higher sulfur content than ever. At the same time, they are being required to produce low-sulfur products and to reduce the sulfur-based emissions they generate in the process. IsoTherming(TM) Technology involves a novel reactor system that is superior to conventional hydrotreating technologies. For the refiner, this technology offers reduced capital costs and lower annual operating costs while dramatically reducing sulfur content in motor fuels.

The IsoTherming(TM) Technology business will be integrated into DuPont Clean Technologies, a part of DuPont Chemical Solutions Enterprise, as a clean fuel offering along with DuPont(TM) STRATCO(TM) Clean Fuel Technologies, based in Leawood, Kan. DuPont Clean Technologies business offerings also include DuPont(TM) BELCO(TM) Clean Air Technologies, DuPont Clean Water Technologies and DuPont Sulfur Technologies.

Process Dynamics, Inc., based in Fayetteville, Ark., is a provider of advanced technology solutions for the refining industry.

DuPont -- one of the first companies to publicly establish environmental goals 16 years ago -- has broadened its sustainability commitments beyond internal footprint reduction to include market-driven targets for both revenue and research and development investment like DuPont Clean Technologies. The goals are tied directly to business growth, specifically to the development of safer and environmentally improved new products and technologies for key global markets, including technologies that help oil refiners reduce their environmental impact such as DuPont Clean Technologies.
