Draka Communications - Americas expands leadership in bend insensitive fiber cables by offering BendBright-XS in all cables, from premise and drop to 864 ribbon feeder cables!

Claremont, North Carolina, March 13, 2009 (NYSE EURONEXT: DRAK) - Draka Communications - Americas announces the availability of bend insensitive fibers throughout its complete family of outside plant fiber cables. With a choice of three fibers in the BendBright family and thousands of fiber cable varieties, Draka provides the customer with the ultimate choice and flexibility in selecting the best fiber cable for the application.

In 2005 Draka led the industry by announcing that BendBright would be the standard fiber used in all Draka drop cables. Draka is now offering all three of its bend insensitive fibers in all outside plant cables including loose tube, central tube, ribbon and drop cable as well as all flame rated cables for use in indoor applications.

"Draka believes in 'Value Innovation' and the BendBright fiber suite is an innovation that provides tremendous value for next generation access networks. Fiber to the home deployments come with unique challenges for the installer and from day one we had that installer in mind as we developed these fiber cables", states Greg Williams, Director of Marketing. "For example, cables using BendBright-XS can be handled much like copper, enabling them to be bent around tight corners and even stapled to studs with virtually no signal loss. This generates considerable time and cost savings for our customers."

Bend Insensitive Fiber Leadership: Draka introduced its first G.657.A bend insensitive fiber, BendBright, in 2002. BendBright offers a 10X bend tolerance improvement over standard single mode fiber. In 2006 Draka released its second generation G.657.B bend insensitive fiber, BendBright-XS, which offers a 100X bend tolerance improvement and is ideal for challenging FTTH applications. Draka has since stretched its leadership with the announcement of a variation of BendBright-XS, BendBright-Elite, that offers an unrivaled level of bending performance at any bend radius for specialty applications like optical components and military/aerospace markets. All of these fibers take advantage of ColorLock-XS, an evolution of Draka's unique ColorLock fiber coating system. ColorLock-XS delivers a ten-fold improvement in micro-bending tolerance and is standard across the entire Draka single mode fiber cable product line.
