Dr. Bouzid Choubane receives Kummer Lecture Award.

Kummer Lecture Award from ASTM International Committee E17 on Vehicle - Pavement Systems. Choubane was honored in appreciation of his December 2008 Kummer Lecture on "Accelerated Pavement Testing to Assess the Performance of Pavement Systems: Florida's Experience." He has authored or co-authored more than 30 peer-reviewed technical papers in his field.

W. CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa., 12 January 2009-Dr. Bouzid Choubane, state pavement materials engineer at the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) in Gainesville, Fla., has received the H.W. Kummer Lecture Award from ASTM International Committee E17 on Vehicle - Pavement Systems. Choubane was honored in appreciation of his December 2008 Kummer Lecture on "Accelerated Pavement Testing to Assess the Performance of Pavement Systems: Florida's Experience."

A member of ASTM International since 2000, Choubane is an active member of Committee E17, where he is Group IV vice chair of the main committee and chairs Subcommittees E17.12 on Papers and Symposia and E17.33 on Methodology for Analyzing Pavement Roughness. He is also a member of Committee D04 on Road and Paving Materials.

Choubane has held various engineer positions at FDOT since joining the staff in 1996 and he assumed his current role in 2004. As state pavement materials engineer, he is responsible for providing strategic direction and oversight for pavement-related work and research programs. He has authored or co-authored more than 30 peer-reviewed technical papers in his field and he served as editor of ASTM Special Technical Publication 1486, Pavement Surface Condition/Performance Assessment: Reliability and Relevancy of Procedures and Technologies.

Choubane, who received his Ph.D. in civil engineering from the University of Florida, Gainesville, Fla., also holds an M.S. in civil engineering from the University of Pennsylvania and a B.S. in civil engineering from Centre Universitaire de Tizi-Ouzou, Algeria. A registered professional engineer in the state of Florida, he is also a member of the Transportation Research Board, where he chairs the committee on full-scale accelerated pavement testing.
