Press release date: October 4, 2011

UCON(TM) OSP Base Fluid used in both motor oil and transmission fluid

NEW YORK - The Dow Chemical Company (NYSE: DOW) today announced UCON(TM) Oil-Soluble Polyalkylene Glycol (OSP) Base Fluid played an integral role in the success of OAK Racing during the recent Petit Le Mans. The Petit Le Mans marked the fourth in the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup series for OAK Racing to leverage Dow's UCON(TM) OSP technology in the transmission fluid and third time in the motor oil.

This collaboration began with the 24 Hours of Le Mans where UCON(TM) OSP Base Fluid used in the transmission fluid helped two OAK Racing cars withstand the demands of speed and endurance at Le Mans. Following 24 Hours of Le Mans, UCON(TM) OSP Base Fluid was used in both the transmission fluid and motor oil during the IMOLA and Silverstone races. The lubricants have shown to boost the power and performance of the OAK Racing cars while providing essential drive train protection under demanding race conditions.

The Petit Le Mans, which marked its 2nd year in the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup series this year, took place October 1 at Road Atlanta in Braselton, Georgia. The race covers a maximum of 1,000 miles or a maximum of 10 hours, whichever comes first.

Mr. Michel Majot, owner of MAJOT, SA and producer of the lubricants used by OAK Racing said "The combination of Dow's UCON(TM) OSP Base Fluid and MAJOT, SA's proven ester has demonstrated outstanding performance in the OAK Racing cars throughout the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup series this year. We are very pleased with the capabilities demonstrated by UCON(TM) OSP."

Chuck Carn, Strategic Marketing Manager for Dow added "UCON(TM) OSP Base Fluids have been used in a variety of applications since their launch earlier this year. We have been working with applications ranging from hydraulic fluids to metalworking fluids and turbine oils. Seeing the product used in auto racing adds a new and exciting dimension to the broad application capabilities of UCON(TM) OSP."

UCON(TM) OSP Base Fluids use proprietary oil-soluble polyalkylene glycol (PAG) technology to retain key advantages of synthetic PAG-based lubricants - including low friction and excellent film-forming advantages, as well as other benefits including deposit control, improved heat transfer, and high viscosity index values - while offering compatibility with mineral oils and synthetic hydrocarbon base oils. This compatibility can help lubricant manufacturers to formulate fully synthetic or semi-synthetic lubricants that can help reduce friction and increase power.

Le Mans Prototypes (LMP), like those fielded by OAK Racing, are high performance open and closed cockpit vehicles that include LMP1 and LMP2 models. LMP1 cars are powered by custom engines and tend to be faster while LMP2 cars are less powerful but lighter in weight.
