Leading flashlight producer aims to help consumers get 'out of the dark' about identity theft

TEMPE, AZ - (DATE) - For more than 50 years, Dorcy International has been helping consumers to see things more clearly with their highly rated flashlights and lanterns. And now, the Columbus, Ohio-based company is helping its customers to look out for their personal identities thanks to a recently announced partnership with leading identity theft protection company LifeLock.

Under the partnership, consumers purchasing any of Dorcy's many products will receive a discount on a LifeLock® membership. This offer, which is available on selected in-store Dorcy products as well as online purchases through www.DorcyDirect.com, will allow consumers nationwide to take advantage of LifeLock's complete package of identity theft protection services at a discounted rate.

"Security is central to every product we make," said Dorcy President Tom Beckett. "It feels natural to partner with a company like LifeLock that has the well-being of consumers at the heart of its mission. We're excited to bring this added layer of protection to Dorcy customers and hope it will bring the many families that trust our name some added peace of mind."

In Dorcy's home state of Ohio, more than 37,000 people registered an identity theft or fraud complaint to the Federal Trade Commission in 2008, an increase of 14.8% over the previous year. In the last two years, more than a dozen Ohio companies and universities have reported incidents of lost or stolen data impacting more than 630,000 people.

"Unique partnership opportunities like the one we have formed with Dorcy allow us to reach out and offer our services to more consumers, empowering families to protect their identities," said Steve McGrady, LifeLock's Vice President of Strategic Marketing Alliances. "We are proud to join forces with those who put the safety of their customers first. The threat of identity theft is not going away, but by working together we are able to cut off more roads to identity thieves."

This fast growing crime is costing Americans more than $1.8 billion annually, and complaints have risen 50% from 2007 to 2008. Since 2000, identity theft complaints filed with the Federal Trade Commission have gone from 230,000 to 1.2 million, a 422% increase in nine years.

As the industry leader in identity theft protection, LifeLock requests on behalf of its clients that the national credit bureaus place fraud alerts on its members' credit files, and requests that members' names be removed from pre-approved credit card offer lists. Members are also entitled to LifeLock's WalletLock(TM), eRecon(TM) and TrueAddress(TM) services. WalletLock(TM) services provide cancellation and replacement of all documents and personal identifying information inside a wallet if it is lost or stolen. eRecon(TM) services patrol the Internet in search of social security numbers, credit card numbers, driver's license numbers and email addresses of LifeLock members to protect against the information being illegally traded or sold online. LifeLock's TrueAddress(TM) service searches to see if members have had a change of address form filed and alert them to ensure they are aware of the change. The company's services are backed by a $1 million total service guarantee.
