Doosan's JY Lee Receives Award for Outstanding Achievement

Pine Brook, NJ - Doosan's JY Lee was one of several individuals selected to receive the prestigious NAEK (National Academy of Engineering in Korea) Award. The Award was instituted in 1995 to honor and support engineers who, during the past 60 years, have made conspicuous and ground-breaking contributions to the development of engineering and technology. It further recognizes the achievements that have created within Korea a healthier, safer, and more productive manufacturing environment. Lee was cited specifically for the development of Doosan's family of Puma turning centers.

Puma machines were designed and introduced in 1996 by Daewoo Heavy Industries (now a division of Doosan Infracore) and consisted initially of three machines: the Puma models P200, P250, and P350. Today the Puma family contains more than four dozen machine designs, including both vertical and horizontal models, machines with multiple turrets and multiple spindles, and multi-tasking mill-turns. Worldwide, Puma machines comprise one of the largest, most widely specified family of turning centers.

Accepting the award for Doosan was JY Lee who, since 2008, has served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Doosan Infracore America, and Chief Operating Officer of the Doosan Machine Tool Division. Lee joined the company in 1978 as an R&D Design Engineer and, at the time of Puma's introduction, was the Executive Head of R&D. He holds a Master of Engineering Degree in Mechanical Engineering from KAIST, and a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Seoul National University. He is a previous recipient of the Daewoo Engineer Award, The Daewoo Yearly Award, the Chang Young Sil award and the President of Korea Award.

Joining Lee at the Award ceremony were Kwang Jin Kim, Turning Center R&D Team Leader; MinHee Cho, the New Series Development Manager; and Jung Kil Kim, the Marketing Team Leader.
