Manufacturers Urge the President to Support Jobs and Energy Security
Washington, D.C., – The National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) is spearheading an effort with 152 businesses and business groups to urge President Obama to approve the Keystone XL pipeline. The group sent a letter to the President today emphasizing that the project is a clear job creator and will enhance our nation’s energy security and competitiveness.
"Manufacturers' optimism about their future has taken a nosedive and, as the year comes to a close, our economy is paralyzed with the looming fiscal cliff unresolved,” said NAM President and CEO Jay Timmons. “In the midst of all this uncertainty, President Obama has the opportunity to take action to create jobs and give our economy a shot in the arm. The Keystone XL pipeline will create 20,000 manufacturing and construction jobs and more than 118,000 spin-off jobs while providing a supply of affordable energy to help manufacturers better compete. The project has languished and been under review for nearly five years; we can’t afford to wait any longer.”
“The Nebraska business community supports the Keystone XL pipeline project because it will benefit our state and nation by increasing energy security, creating and supporting thousands of needed jobs, reducing America’s trade deficit, and making significant investments in the heartland,” said Nebraska Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Barry Kennedy. “It’s also important to note that the pipeline will allow for the increased use of American-made energy resources from Montana, North Dakota and South Dakota—providing our nation with safe, secure and reliable supplies of oil and allowing U.S. refineries to operate at a greater capacity.”
