Press release date: September 16, 2010

Culver City, Calif. - September 16, 2010 - DISC-LOCK International, a California based company specializing in the manufacture and distribution of safe and secure fastening systems, including the Safety Wheel Nut, was quoted in a wheel safety article in the September 13, 2010 issue of Waste & Recycling News.

The Waste & Recycling News wheel safety article highlights the problem of "wheel-offs" as a substantial issue with all fleets. DISC-LOCK Vice President, Greg White was quoted along with Chip Todd, National Sales Manager for Chicago Pneumatic Tool Co. LLC, stating that commercial vehicles that start and stop all day on their routes are very susceptible to wheel loss incidents.

"Wheel separations from trucks, trailers and buses are a serious problem, causing accidents, injuries, property damage and fatalities," said Alistair McKinlay, Chairman of DISC-LOCK International. "Truck manufactures and trucking fleets are recognizing that our Safety Wheel Nut is an essential safety device, although some national associations continue to claim that they are not aware that wheel-offs are an issue," added McKinlay.

"We appreciate Waste & Recycling News, with their extended magazine readership, helping explain the seriousness of the wheel-off issues in the transportation and trucking industry," said Greg White, Vice President of DISC-LOCK International. "Our Safety Wheel Nuts, when correctly installed, maintain their clamping force and will not loosen due to vibration and stress, thus preventing wheel loss," added White.

White and Todd both agreed that trucking companies and fleets do not like to publically talk about wheel-off problems, but they still remain a potential disaster waiting to occur each day if wheels are not properly fitted and maintained.
