Dialog Semiconductor Leads Rollout of Qualcomm® Quick Charge 2.0 Compatible Charging ICs Into Japanese Smartphone Market
Hosiden says Dialog's solution offers highest efficiency and power density for its Quick Charge 2.0 adapters for one of Japan's leading mobile TELCO providers
LONDON - Dialog Semiconductor plc (http://www.dialog-semiconductor.com) (FWB: DLG(http://www.dialog-semiconductor.com/investor-relations)), a provider of highly integrated power management, AC/DC, solid state lighting and short-range wireless technologies today announced it has started shipping in volume its Qualcomm® Quick Charge 2.0-compatible iW620(http://iwatt.com/product/iw620) AC/DC adapter interface IC into the Japanese smartphone power supply market to customers including Hosiden Corporation, a leading Japanese manufacturer of chargers for smartphones and mobile devices. The iW620 ships with Dialog's iW1760 PrimAccurate™ primary-side digital controller for Hosiden's CBC2112 model Quick Charge 2.0 adapter, designed for one of Japan's leading mobile TELCO providers.

"We selected Dialog's iW620 because it provided us with the absolute highest efficiency Quick Charge 2.0 solution available. This new CBC2112 adapter supports automatic switching of three power outputs (5V, 9V, 12V), depending on the devices which are used. Not only does it have higher capacity and output than the conventional products (5V), but also it has been designed with high-precision output and prevention against the negative effects of PLC in mind. Its market is expected to expand as this Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 standard becomes popular."
Reducing battery charge time is one of the most compelling trends in smartphones and tablets. The endless surge in power-hungry applications requires larger battery capacities and longer charge times, yet consumers want devices that charge even faster than ever before. Quick Charge 2.0 is a proprietary protocol from Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., for charging smartphones, tablets and other mobile devices up to 75% faster than conventional USB charging technology.

The iW620 supports Quick Charge 2.0 High Voltage Dedicated Charging Port (HVDCP) Class A (5V, 9V, 12V output) applications and, with the iW1760 primary-side digital PWM controller, it provides fast voltage transition and low standby power consumption less than 30mW. This enables Quick Charge 2.0 adapters to meet the most stringent worldwide energy standards, including the final 2014 U.S. DOE regulation requiring under 100mW AC/DC adapter standby power consumption, the European Code of Conduct Version 5, Tier 2, and the European Commission's Energy-related Products (ErP) Directive.
