Deutsche Telekom Uses Rohde & Schwarz T&M Equipment for Acceptance Tests on LTE Wireless Devices

To keep customers satisfied, the high-speed mobile Internet experience with LTE should not be hampered by disruptions. Rohde Schwarz has developed customized test cases for Deutsche Telekom to ensure that LTE-capable wireless devices function smoothly in the mobile network operator's network.

Munich — Deutsche Telekom now uses the R&S CMW KO550 test case option from Rohde & Schwarz for quality assurance of its LTE network in Germany. The option enables the mobile network operator to test the transmission quality of new LTE wireless devices according to its specific network settings. The test cases not only let Deutsche Telekom benefit from the comprehensive Rohde & Schwarz expertise in LTE test and measurement. They also allow wireless device manufacturers to prepare for Deutsche Telekom acceptance tests. For these manufacturers, the solution is an ideal addition to the Rohde & Schwarz conformance test cases for LTE in line with industry standards. Operator acceptance tests for other network operators are available as well.

The R&S CMW-KO550 option for the R&S CMW500 wideband radio communication tester enables Deutsche Telekom to run specific LTE protocol test scenarios. The network operator utilizes the test cases, together with the LTE data throughput tests on the R&S CMW PQA, for terminal tests to ensure that marketed wireless devices support the high data rates of up to 100 Mbit/s that LTE offers.

Using the R&S CMW-PQA test platform for end-to-end testing between mobile phones and base stations of different standards, the R&S CMW500 simulates a complete wireless communications network, while the R&S AMU200 fading simulator generates the required fading signals for real-world conditions.

The R&S CMW-KO550 option for LTE protocol tests is now available from Rohde & Schwarz. Additional packages for Deutsche Telekom for LTE InterRAT (radio access technology), which test the handover from LTE to other standards such as WCDMA or GSM, as well as for IMS and VoLTE are planned for 2013.
