Beta Gives Customers Control Over Their Internet Identity

BELLEVUE, Wash., Nov. 8 - Today Demoxi, Inc. announced the public beta of Demoxi Identity, which enables users to control their online identity and determine which web sites or organizations can gain access to some or all of their information.

With Demoxi Identity, users will be able to:

- Manage their identity securely - Travel the Internet without being tracked - Better manage their user IDs and passwords - Fill online forms securely and easily - Communicate securely with other Demoxi members

"One of the major challenges of the Internet is how to balance the need for personalization versus privacy. Personalization provides convenience and relevance, yet comes at the cost of personal privacy. Demoxi is a big win for consumers - it creates an Internet that is personalized yet private, secure and spam-free across web, mobile and desktop," said Rob Monster, Co-Founder and Chairman of Demoxi, Inc.

The advent of the ad-supported Internet has driven the increase in behavioral tracking, a practice in which online marketers and advertising networks track, gather, and analyze a person's moment-by-moment use of the Internet to serve targeted advertisements. A study released last week by the Samuelson Clinic and the Annenberg Public Policy Center found that the average American consumer is largely unaware that online behavioral tracking occurs, how prevalent it is, or how that information is being used. The study also found that 85 percent of respondents felt that web sites should be barred from serving advertisements based on clickstream data about their visits to other sites. The study can be found at www.law.berkeley.edu/clinics/samuelson/annenberg_samuelson_advertising-11.pdf

"With the privacy challenges of behavioral targeting and click stream tracking coupled with spam, phishing, and identity theft, it is clear that users must be in the driver's seat to take back control of their identity," said Jim Adler, Co-Founder and CEO of Demoxi.

"Our goal with the public beta is to show users how Demoxi Identity can provide this control, and to gather user feedback so we can continue improving the technology in preparation for our global launch in Q1 2008."

In October 2007, Demoxi commissioned Global Market Insite, Inc. for an online survey of a representative sample of 750 US consumers. The survey found that while the majority of people believe controlling their identity online is important, they do not have the tools to do so. Exactly 50% of those polled stated they would not visit a site if there was a risk it would link to their personal information. The survey also found that 32% of those polled never change their passwords, greatly increasing the risk of identity theft or fraud. Survey results can be found at demoxi.com.

The public beta currently supports Firefox and Internet Explorer versions 6 and 7 on Microsoft Windows XP, with Windows Vista support following over the next several weeks. Demoxi will also support Apple's Macintosh operating system; support for the Firefox and Safari web browsers on the Mac will become available in Q1 2008, as will support for Safari on Windows XP and Vista. Interested users can download the beta product at demoxi.com, and all feedback can be sent to feedback@demoxi.com.
