Press release date: February 9, 2010

TROY, Mich. - Following the successful introduction of K-Alloy in 2003, Delphi Corp. has added another aluminum alloy formula to its portfolio. The new alloy -- K-Alloy SP -- can be used in sand casting and permanent mold applications while maintaining a high-corrosion resistance at a lower cost compared to other alloys.

"The original K-Alloy continues to provide aluminum die casting with exceptional corrosion resistance results in vehicle engine electronics, sporting goods, outdoor lighting, furniture and mail boxes, just to name a few. But K-Alloy SP allows us to work with an expanded set of users that utilize permanent molds and sand casting in their process," said Timothy Forbes, director, Delphi Technologies, Inc. (DTI), a wholly owned subsidiary of Delphi that is responsible for licensing and commercializing products such as K-Alloy SP.

Delphi's K-Alloy SP has the same benefits as the original K-Alloy in that it resists corrosion and can eliminate costly processes designed to slow corrosion including anodizing, chromating, powder coating and painting. Because it was originally developed for use within the automotive industry, it can withstand extreme salt corrosion and temperatures, vibration and shock. It has been tested to withstand 3,000 hours of salt spray testing exceeding the performance of other commercially available alloys.

Delphi has licensed Beck Aluminum to produce and market K-Alloy SP in addition to the original K-Alloy. The agreement allows interested companies a simplified process to gain access to the patented material. Delphi has also expanded its global availability through a recently established agreement with a smelter in China.

Additionally, as a result of experience with the alloy and process refinement, Beck is now able to provide a more competitive price for K-Alloy and K-Alloy SP.
