DataLase Appoints New Laser and Hardware Project Leader

(September 4 2006) - DataLase (formerly Sherwood Technology), originators of the award winning DataLase® process, announces the appointment of John Cridland as its new laser and hardware Project Leader. In his new role, John will head up the company's lasers and hardware development programs, addressing all aspects from design/fabrication of next generation laser systems and user/software interfaces through to aspects of systems integration.

Lasers are an essential part of the groundbreaking DataLase® process. The innovative technology uses a laser reactive coating, which undergoes a color change reaction from white to black when imaged with a CO2 laser. As the new laser and hardware Project Leader, John will play a crucial role in leading the way to innovative technological developments for DataLase in the laser-marking industry.

John brings to DataLase 25 years of technical and managerial experience in research, design, development and manufacture of equipment for industrial applications such as laser cutting and marking. Having managed the day-to-day operations of a small business and also worked for large organisations such as Quantum Associates, Photon Laser Technology Ltd., Control Laser Ltd. and the British Aerospace Dynamics Group, John has acquired outstanding project management, customer support, costing, and proposal preparation and presentation skills.

John has developed computer codes for laser and system simulation and control applications. He has also published several articles in scientific journals. John holds a Bachelor of Science in Physics, a Diploma in Mathematical Physics and a Ph.D. in Diffusion of Micro-organisms and Micro-Particles from the University College of Swansea (University of Wales, UK).

Steve Kelly, Managing Director at DataLase comments: "DataLase is excited to welcome John to our expanding team of world class scientists. Combining extensive technical experience with a proven track record of managerial accomplishments, John's expertise will benefit our customers and partners significantly, contributing to the development of revolutionary techniques for marking products and protecting brands."

DataLase is a fast growing technology company committed to developing patented, innovative laser marking solutions across a diverse range of sectors including product identification, anti-counterfeiting, brand protection and document security.
