Gaspar, Ph.D. works on several E42 subcommittees, including U.S. Technical Advisory Group to ISO TC 201 on Surface Chemical Analysis. He joined the staff at PNNL as a senior research scientist in 2000 and assumed his current role of technical group manager in 2006. His career has focused on materials development and characterization, especially nano-scaled materials, with a focus on applications in energy and the environment.

W. CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa., -ASTM International Committee E42 on Surface Analysis has named Daniel J. Gaspar, Ph.D., technical group manager at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, in Richland, Wash., as its new chairman. Committee E42 develops concepts and approaches that help improve quantitative surface analysis, and its 67 members currently oversee 30 ASTM standards in this area. A member of ASTM International since 2001, Gaspar works on several E42 subcommittees, including the U.S. Technical Advisory Group to ISO TC 201 on Surface Chemical Analysis. After earning his Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Chicago, Chicago, Ill., in 1998, Gaspar, who also holds a B.S. in chemistry from Duke University, Durham, N.C., accepted the position of senior scientist at Eltron Research Inc. in Boulder, Colo. He joined the staff at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory as a senior research scientist in 2000 and assumed his current role in 2006. His career has focused on materials development and characterization, especially nano-scaled materials, with a focus on applications in energy and the environment. Gaspar is a member of the American Chemical Society, the Materials Research Society and AVS (formerly known as the American Vacuum Society) in addition to ASTM International.
