West Bridge(TM) Antioch(TM) Controller Delivers 2X and Greater Transfer Speeds Compared to Other Phones with High-Speed USB

SAN JOSE, Calif., December 10, 2007 - Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (NYSE: CY) today announced that its peripheral controller delivered the fastest transfer of multimedia files from a PC to a mobile handset in a recent comparison by industry analyst firm Semiconductor Insights. The comparison discovered that the phone using the CYWB0124AB West Bridge(TM) Antioch(TM) controller transferred 49.7 Mbytes of 22 song files in 5 seconds and 552.5 Mbytes of an 85-minute movie file in 37 seconds. The other phones tested, which all feature High-Speed USB, took at least twice as long. Full details of the comparison are available at www.eetimes.com/showArticle.jhtml?articleID=203101718."

"Mobile systems today have sufficient memory to store a movie or two, some CDs, and typical phone data like contact information and pictures; but having the same movies on the phone all of the time can get wearisome, especially for frequent travelers," says Greg Quirk, technical marketing manager at Semiconductor Insights, in the article. "Being able to replace phone content quickly is therefore a big selling point."

The West Bridge Antioch controller achieves its superior performance by providing a direct path from high-speed USB 2.0 to the latest handset storage devices such as Secure Digital (SD), MultiMedia Card (MMC), Hard Disk Drive (HDD) and NAND Flash. By fully offloading management of USB and storage from the main baseband processor, the controller saves critical processor resources and allows a mobile handset to maintain full functionality while simultaneously uploading or downloading multimedia files, synchronizing PIM data, or even using the phone as a PC modem. The Antioch controller is currently in full production.

"The results found by Semiconductor Insights demonstrate the next level of performance and connectivity that Cypress's West Bridge Antioch peripheral controller makes possible," said Alakesh Chetia, vice president of the West Bridge Business Unit at Cypress. "Our West Bridge architecture is gaining momentum with the major handset manufacturers as they recognize the tremendous value it brings in freeing up an embedded processor to focus on its primary function."

The West Bridge Antioch device is powered by Cypress's Simultaneous Link to Independent Multimedia(TM) (SLIM(TM)) architecture, which manages dedicated paths to allow the Processor Host (P-port), Mass Storage (S-port), and High-Speed USB (U-port) interfaces to connect independently. This innovative architecture, combined with 16 USB endpoints, creates new simultaneous usage models when the phone is connected to a PC, and a better overall user experience.

About West Bridge Antioch

The CYWB0124AB West Bridge Antioch controller is a dedicated mobile handset solution that features a low-power 1.8-volt core to support an I/O voltage range of 1.8 V to 3.3 V seamlessly interfacing with several generations of handset processors. The device comes in a small 100 ball fpBGA (Fine Pitch Ball Grid Array) package that measures only 6 mm x 6 mm and 0.5-mm pitch. Antioch leverages Cypress's 0.13-micron C8(TM) low power process technology to slash dynamic and standby current. Additionally, Antioch supports standard cell phone frequencies such as 19.2 MHz and 26 MHz for clock input, removing the need for an additional crystal.
