Curbell Plastics, one of the nation's premier suppliers of plastic sheet materials, has joined the Laminating Division of the Glass Association of North America. The Laminating Division of GANA includes technical experts from material suppliers and glass laminators who work together to develop engineering standards for windows made from layers of glass bonded to high performance polymer sheeting. Applications for these glass-polymer laminates include blast-resistant embassy windows, detention facility windows, and bullet-resistant glazing for military vehicles.
"The glass laminating industry is constantly pushing for increased ballistic performance and superior optics, as well as reduced thickness and weight" said Liz Grimes, the Business Development Manager for Curbell's transparent armor product line. "The challenge is to engineer a cost-effective window using the right combinations of glass and polymer sheeting to achieve the best possible security performance without increasing weight or compromising optical clarity."
