Press release date: November 5, 2012

New, sleeker size offers brands greater flexibility

Philadelphia, PA – CROWN Beverage Packaging North America, a business unit of Crown Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: CCK) (Crown) ( www.crowncork.com ), is debuting a new 10oz beverage can that offers specialty beverage brands a stylish alternative to traditional drink packaging. The sleek new can is the perfect choice for brands that are seeking to hit a different retail price point in certain markets as well as differentiate wellness and portion-controlled drinks such as low-calorie sodas by choosing a slimmer, eye-catching format.

The new can has been developed in part to meet the growing popularity among consumers for specialty beverages that are not typically packaged in traditional 12oz cans. The new addition marks the first time that a 10oz beverage can has been produced in the sleeker 58mm diameter line, providing increased flexibility for brands.

"While beers and carbonated soft drinks are typically packaged in 12oz cans, certain markets and consumers tend to enjoy their favorite brands and/or specialty beverages such as health drinks and iced coffee in smaller volumes. The new can meets that need while also enabling brands to stand out on store shelves with a fresh, original look," said Neill Mitchell, Vice President Marketing and Strategic Development, CROWN Beverage Packaging North America. "Crown's expansion of its product line reflects our commitment to help our customers respond to consumer demands."

Beyond specialty drinks, the new can size is an opportunity for other beverage brands to grow their market share. For beer brands, the new line can drive growth and profitability, with a case of 10oz cans serving as a viable retail price alternative between a 12-pack of beer and a full case of 12oz cans. And as consumers continue to demand sustainable products, brands benefit from the 100% recyclability of metal packaging, which can be further enhanced when combined with Crown’s SuperEnd® beverage end technology, which reduce metal use by 10%.
