OptiTip(TM) MT Connector offers fast, reliable network connectivity in the harshest environments

HICKORY, N.C. - Corning Cable Systems LLC, part of Corning Incorporated's (NYSE:GLW) Telecommunications segment, announces that its OptiTip(TM) MT Connector has passed the test requirements of IP69K and IP68 standards for industrial applications.

Products rated to IP69K must be able to stand up to high-pressure and high-temperature wash-down procedures at close range - four to six inches away. This rating may benefit the food and beverage, pharmaceutical and petrochemical industries, where high-pressure wash-down and elevated water or solvent temperatures are used. IP68-rated products must be able to withstand long periods of under-pressure immersion in liquids while also providing protection from dust or other debris.

The patented OptiTip MT Connector is a key component of Corning Cable Systems' Plug and Play(TM) AnyLAN(TM) Systems, a fully preterminated industrial cabling infrastructure that features fiber optic distribution trunk cables pre-installed with network access points at customer-specified intervals. Each network access point provides access to the optical fibers with preterminated harnesses that connect to the access points using the OptiTip MT Connector. The entire system is then packaged and shipped to the customer on a cable reel for immediate deployment in the desired indoor or outdoor application.

Corning Cable Systems sent its OptiTip MT Connector to independent third-party laboratories for both IP68 and IP69K testing in order to validate the connector's performance under a variety of industrial conditions. The ability for a fiber optic connector to withstand harsh spray-down conditions and dusty or debris-ridden environments lowers the risk of connectivity failure during production or maintenance.

In addition to minimizing the risk of connectivity failure, high-pressure wash-down procedures may also use less water and less detergent than lower-pressure spray-down methods, potentially offering both cost-savings and environmental benefits to industrial networks.
