Press release date: October 2, 2006

Coupler/splitter solution compatible with multiple hardware families to reduce complexity

HICKORY, N.C. - Corning Cable Systems, part of Corning Incorporated's (GLW:NYSE) Telecommunications segment, is highlighting its Premier Coupler/Splitter Module solution at the 2006 FTTH Conference, Oct. 2-5 in Las Vegas.

In a passive optical network (PON), optical signals are passed through coupler/splitter modules to distribute the signal to individual subscribers. Corning Cable Systems' Premier Coupler/Splitter Modules provide for the smallest module/splitter form factor in the industry, thereby minimizing the overall hardware size. Each module/splitter accommodates either 1x32, dual 1x16, or two 1x8 modules. The Premier Modules provide a completely connectorized solution utilizing standardized pigtail lengths that are compatible and interchangeable across a range of hardware products.

The Premier Coupler/Splitter Module solution is compatible in Corning Cable Systems' 144-, 288- and 432-port OptiTect(TM) Premier Cabinets, a local convergence point cabinet family featuring a much smaller size and weight than traditional cabinets. The coupler/splitter modules are also accepted in Corning Cable Systems' Eclipse Hardware products, which provide interconnect and cross-connect capabilities. When using the Premier Coupler/Splitter Modules, the Eclipse Hardware allows for a complete 864-fiber FTTx splitter and distribution solution in one standard seven foot frame.

With the compatibility of the Premier Coupler/Splitter Modules across hardware product lines, customers can reduce inventory costs as well as training time.

Corning will highlight the Premier Coupler/Splitter Module solution in its booth (#103) at the FTTH Conference. The solution will also be featured in the Fiber-Powered Pavilion (booth #440), a multi-exhibit pavilion that demonstrates how fiber is changing the way we live via a live gigabit passive optical network (GPON) demonstration.

Through its Evolant® Solutions for Access Networks, Corning Cable Systems offers specialized portfolios of innovative products and services that enable customers to cost-effectively deploy fiber in the last mile.
