Copper slag is now available with pre-blended Blastox®. Blastox® is often used as a chemical additive to sandblasting media, for lead paint removal applications. You are able to use your regular blasting equipment, with no changes in blasting profile.
Blastox® is a complex calcium silicate, which when added to sandblasting abrasive media, will stabilize the lead found in lead paint. The resulting spent abrasive and residue is then considered non-hazardous and can be placed into Subtitle D landfills.
Another benefit to using Blastox® is that it creates a safer work environment by lower the levels of lead in the air. Blastox® has been approved by the US Military, Federal Highway Administration, and state DOT's. There is usually an added cost per net ton charge, for pre-blending Blastox® into copper slag abrasive. However, costs are considered minimal when compared with the benefits.
