Cooper Industries Appoints New General Counsel


HOUSTON, Aug. 2, 2006 - Cooper Industries (NYSE:CBE) today announced the appointment of Kevin M. McDonald as senior vice president and general counsel. McDonald, who will report to Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Kirk S. Hachigian, will join the company in mid-August.

McDonald replaces Diane K. Schumacher, Cooper's Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer. Schumacher, who is retiring from Cooper after 26 years, will remain for a period of time with the Company as Special Counsel, reporting to Hachigian. She will continue to manage issues resulting from the Federal-Mogul bankruptcy and other related litigation.

Kevin McDonald currently serves as associate general counsel of Anadarko Petroleum Corporation. In this role, he manages Anadarko's domestic and international litigation, providing legal advice and counsel on a wide variety of issues involving operations, transactions, corporate governance, business relationships, disputes and risk management. McDonald also provides legal support for global transactions. Prior to joining Anadarko, he headed the litigation practice group and had similar responsibilities at Valero Energy Corporation in San Antonio. Additional experience includes more than nine years with the law firm of Houston-based Fulbright & Jaworski, L.L.P.

McDonald earned his J.D. from The University of Texas School of Law, and a Bachelor of Science from Texas A&M University.
