Cooper Crouse-Hinds® Celebrates 100th Anniversary of Breakthrough Condulet® Electrical Product

SYRACUSE, N.Y., October 10, 2006 - Cooper Crouse-Hinds®, a leading global supplier of high-quality electrical products, celebrates the 100th anniversary of the introduction of Condulet® conduit fittings, a breakthrough product that solved a key problem for an industrial revolution powered by electricity.

Invented in 1906, the Cooper Crouse-Hinds Condulet - coined by combining conduit and outlet - was the first electrical product designed to provide safe and convenient access to wiring enclosed in metal conduit. The Condulet product line has since grown to include more than 1,100 extensions, comprising six distinct families of products, and has become the highest selling conduit fitting product in the electrical industry's history. Crouse-Hinds Begins a Tradition of Delivering Cost-Saving, Safety Solutions
One hundred years ago, electricity as an industrial power source was in its infancy. Contractors used existing natural gas pipes to run electrical wiring into factories, which required cutting the pipes to gain access to pull the wires. This left exposed conductors, resulting in frequent damage and costly replacements. To address this critical issue, Crouse-Hinds introduced the Condulet fitting, which quickly became the industry standard.

"The introduction of the Condulet exemplifies the Cooper Crouse-Hinds' tradition of industry leadership," said Curt Andersson, President of Cooper Crouse-Hinds. "The ability to anticipate the emerging needs of our customers and provide innovative solutions continues to be a hallmark of Cooper Crouse-Hinds today."

Over the last one hundred years, Cooper Crouse-Hinds has continued to expand the Condulet family, with subsequent enhancements to ensure the safe use of electricity in industries including petrochemical processing, mining and automotive manufacturing. During World War II, Condulet fittings were essential to accelerating production at munitions factories, oil refineries and manufacturing plants, and today they continue to be widely used throughout all commercial and industrial electrical construction applications. The product is manufactured in sand-cast gray iron, sand-cast malleable iron, sand-cast copper-free aluminum and die-cast aluminum.
