Original Press Release:

Consistency of EPDM Sheet Material Is Purpose of New ASTM International Standard

W. CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa., 15 December 2008-A new ASTM standard developed by ASTM International Committee D35 on Geosynthetics fills a need for an internationally recognized standard to ensure that EPDM sheet material received by customers is consistent regardless of the manufacturer. The new standard, D7465, Specification for Ethylene Propylene Diene Terpolymer (EPDM) Sheet Used in Geomembrane Applications, is under the jurisdiction of Subcommittee D35.10 on Geomembranes.

Jeff PanKonie, senior engineer, Firestone Specialty Products Co. LLC, and a D35 member, says that D7465 will be the basis that manufacturers will need to meet to have their materials be considered when customers are vying for specified projects in the lining arena. "D7465 will level the playing field and make it easier for engineers to compare like materials when selecting EPDM for their lining applications," says PanKonie.
