Confectionery Manufacturers Find Innovation at PACK EXPO

Specialty Pavilion, Lounge and Educational Sessions Make the Show a Sweet Opportunity

Reston, Va.; - Today's confectionery manufacturers face a variety of challenges, including the need to reduce costs, enhance efficiency, meet sustainability goals and compete in an ever-expanding marketplace. PACK EXPO International 2012 (October 28-31; McCormick Place, Chicago, Ill) will provide professionals in this industry with the resources and insights to overcome these hurdles.

The show's customer-centric approach presents several features that help make finding technologies for confectionery processing and packaging fast and easy.

Among them is The Confectionery Pavilion - a sold-out, specialty pavilion located in the South Hall. This dedicated area will showcase solutions for maximizing convenience, shelf life and production line efficiency for chocolates, candy, gum and other confections.

Located inside The Confectionery Pavilion, The Candy Bar lounge (Booth S-1283) will provide a central networking location for confectionery manufacturers and suppliers, equipped with an "Ask the Expert" feature where attendees can gain insight from industry veterans, as they address questions on packaging- and processing-related challenges. The lounge will host a special reception on Monday, October 29, from 4:00 pm-5:30 pm.

Both The Candy Bar lounge and The Confectionery Pavilion are sponsored by the National Confectioners Association (NCA).

"Our partnership with the NCA demonstrates the value that PACK EXPO International 2012 will provide to confectionery manufacturers both as a resource for the technologies they need tomorrow and the insights they need to build a successful future," said Charles D. Yuska, president and CEO of PMMI.

The Conference at PACK EXPO can also be a resource for confectionery manufacturers seeking examples and insights to guide them in refining their processing and packaging operations. In a presentation entitled "Packaging Sustainability and the Food Value Chain", Anne Roulin, Head of Packaging, Nestle, will discuss how the Packaging Impact Quick Evaluation Tool (PIQET) was introduced at Nestlé and explore how the initiative has impacted the company - and ideas about sustainable packaging initiatives - worldwide. Roulin's session will take place Tuesday, October 30th at 1:30 p.m. For information on how to register for this session, visit www.packexpo.com.

Though not specifically geared towards confectionery manufacturers, several other show features will provide useful guide posts to companies within the industry. The Brand Zone will help brands discover innovative containers and materials grabbing consumer attention at the point of purchase. Within The Brand Zone, attendees can explore award-winning package designs at The Showcase of Packaging Innovations®, sponsored by The Dow Chemical Company, learn about exciting new materials from Material ConneXion® and understand the latest consumer drivers from the intelligence experts at Mintel.

The Processing Zone will spotlight the latest processing technologies for mixing, heating and handling confectionery ingredients and products.

Manufacturers of candies and chocolates can even get a head start on discovering innovation with PACK EXPO Connected Communities, which features a dedicated forum for players in the confectionery industry to connect with suppliers and address their unique challenges all year long.
