Composites Leader MAG Cincinnati Names Dan Allman Director of New Composites Automotive Business Unit

May 2008 - The world's largest supplier of aerospace composites fabrication systems, MAG Cincinnati announces the creation of a new Composites Automotive Business Unit, directed by Daniel Allman, a 21-year veteran of automotive composite programs. The new unit will focus on supplying process expertise and automated equipment solutions to composite applications and manufacturing systems ranging from Class A body panels to structural components. Allman brings to the position experience in plant management and engineering leadership. He has been involved in composite applications for the C4, C5 & C6 Corvette, Cadillac XLR, Dodge Viper and Ford T-Bird Removable Hard Top, among others.

MAG Cincinnati expects new, higher CAFE requirements to accelerate applications for composite weight-savings. Composites capabilities can stimulate new vehicle design and construction concepts, said Allman. "MAG Cincinnati has supplied the enabling technology for the conversion of aircraft structures from aluminum to composites and believes composite materials have the potential to transform current vehicle architecture," he said.

Besides weight savings, composites can provide design flexibility and reduce tooling costs over steel, making niche market platforms financially feasible for the OEM's and more frequent platform refreshes more cost effective, he suggested.

MAG Cincinnati earned the aerospace market leadership position in automated systems for efficient composites fabrication. "We welcome opportunities to apply proven process and applications development expertise along with creative engineering to meet the challenges of the automotive market," said Allman. MAG Cincinnati can provide complete processing solutions, including the industry's broadest and most efficient line of machines, complete systems, robotic cells, secondary machining operations and specialized tooling.

MAG Cincinnati pioneered automated lay-up technologies for carbon fiber/epoxy construction and is the world's leader in productivity and technology supporting the aerospace industry. The company is leveraging its vast experience and processing expertise in aerospace to serve new emerging composites markets including automotive, energy, and construction.

Additionally, a sister company, MAG Cincinnati Automation, brings unique expertise in material handling, composite forming, robots and fixturing solutions employing standard, flexible or customized equipment.
