Commitment to Customers and Constant Innovation Earns DEK International the 2006 Frost & Sullivan Award for Market Leadership

Frost & Sullivan's recent analysis of the World SMT Screen Printers Markets selected DEK International (DEK) as the recipient of the 2006 Frost & Sullivan Award for Market Leadership in this market for maintaining its technology leadership position consistently over the years and for the company's continuing efforts to enhance customer service.

Each year Frost & Sullivan presents this Award to a company that has exhibited market share leadership by continuously driving innovation and capitalizing on opportunities. The recipient has displayed excellence in all areas of business processes, including the identification of market challenges, and deploying suitable strategies to overcome them.

"DEK's diverse product portfolio has helped the company penetrate all segments of the market successfully and cater to customers around the world," says Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst Lavanya Ram Mohan. "Customers, in turn, have accepted the flexibility inherent in the company's product line as an effective solution to meet the ever-growing requirements of speed and accuracy."

In 2005, DEK introduced a new platform to address the next-generation process requirements for speed and accuracy. This next-generation platform addresses cost of ownership issues through high throughput and repeatability, one-generation-ahead process capability, and outstanding reliability.

Another unique technology innovation is the control architecture, Intelligent Scaleable Area Network (ISCAN). This is an implementation of controller area network technology. The unique proposition of this technology is the ability to perform remote diagnostics. The advantage of such a technology is best felt in predictive maintenance. This reduces the meantime between any failure and ensuing repair. This architecture allows the machine construction with as much as 40 percent less wiring than any other machine in a similar class.

In addition to these features, DEK has worked with human factors research specialists to develop Instinctiv(TM), the industry's first truly intuitive user interface, to greatly streamline operation and optimize screen printing equipment and complex, modern processes. Instinctiv dramatically reduces setup time, and includes on-board help as well as graphical, easy-to-read machine status information in real-time.

DEK's innovative approach to helping customers maximize productivity is further demonstrated by the company's Hawkeye(TM) high-speed print verification system. Hawkeye challenges convention by introducing the concept of verification - a straightforward good/bad analysis of each deposit with no quantitative inspection data - to allow 100 percent of printed boards to undergo a visual check after printing. This can be achieved without slowing the line beat rate, thereby driving up productivity.

"The other aspect that sets DEK apart is the company's customer service strategies," notes Lavanya. "DEK has transformed itself from a hardware provider to a process enabler and it has a large number of process application engineers located throughout their global base to support this."

DEK has implemented numerous customer service enabler tools, the majority of which are based on their Internet applications. DEK Interactiv (TM) is one such tool. It is a suite of web support tools that provides remote diagnosis, predictive maintenance, machine warranty, machine service, online upgrading, and many more services.

DEK strongly believes that in order to overcome the challenge of commoditization and increasing competition, unrelenting commitment to design and innovation is imperative. Frost & Sullivan is proud to present DEK with the 2006 Market Leadership Award in the SMT Screen Printer Market.
