Comatrol Unveils New Fan Drive Applications, Flagship Design Software and the Industry's Largest Product Portfolio of Proportional Flow Controls at Conexpo/LFPE 2011

2011 Corporate commitment to environmental quality ensures emissions compliance without compromise

EASLEY, SC - Comatrol, a global leader in the design, manufacture and sale of engineered hydraulic cartridge valves, today announced six new pre-engineered control solutions for fan drive applications. The environmentally responsible product line responds to tightened EPA regulations and includes configurable solutions that reduce fuel consumption, noise and emissions.

At CONEXPO/International Fluid Power Expo 2011 in Las Vegas, Comatrol also rolled out its flagship design software EasyValve(TM) 2.0 that takes custom HIC solutions to the next level, providing the customer a virtual link to a Comatrol engineer throughout the entire design process. In addition, the company intensified its investment in energy management by broadening its family of 25 proportional flow controls, making it the largest in the industry, with new innovative features that deliver unprecedented energy management, extreme environment endurance and application performance matching.

"We drew from our experience as a market leader to develop and engineer scalable solutions that meet our customers' needs, all with the reliability and performance they have come to expect from a Comatrol product," said Dave Duvall, Comatrol General Manager. "Comatrol's environmental quality commitment means that our product lines not only meet emissions regulations but are reliable and easily configured into our customers' equipment. From our fan-drive product line to our industry leading proportional flow controls and custom design specification tools, Comatrol is committed to the varied markets our customers serve."

Fan Drive HICs

Comatrol fan drives are used worldwide in a broad range of applications from construction equipment and transit buses to street sweepers and agricultural sprayers. The fan drive market alone is $500 million and will grow rapidly as OEMs implement their re-powering strategies and get more creative with methods to manage the parasitic power consumption on their machines.

"We listened to our customers and heard loud and clear that they are looking for environmentally sensitive product offerings to serve their various markets and we understand that it's not just about hydraulics," said Lon Jennings, Sales and Marketing Director. "It's about partnering with our customers to bring food to the table, care for the environment and make the world a safer and greener place."

As an alternative to traditional belt-driven fans, Comatrol's hydraulic fan drive systems are engineered to operate at the exact speed required to maintain the operating condition of the engine. The fan does not consume power when the cooling power is not required, thereby reducing parasitic power consumption with the added benefit of lower drive-by noise levels because the fan is not turning at full speed even if the engine is. An important environmental quality feature of Comatrol's HIC solution is its reversing functionality which keeps the radiator free of debris, thus maintaining optimum cooling efficiency and decreasing power consumption.

Proportional Flow Controls

Comatrol intensified its investment in proportional flow control technology by expanding its extensive product line, making it the largest and most complete family in the industry. The entire product line now features 25 families with 46 flow settings to allow the valve to match the vehicle performance expectations. In order to address space and total installed cost constraints, the valves are more compact than the predecessors in order to provide advantages on the next generation of vehicle platforms.

The product line comes standard with robust coils for extreme environment exposure, allowing Comatrol to qualify its valves on machines that competitors have struggled to address. Additionally, Comatrol's electrically actuated valves are designed for installation on machines that utilize Sauer-Danfoss PLUS+1 hardware, ensuring they are compliant out of the box.

"When you are 100 feet up in the air on an aerial boom lift between a building and a power line, safety is your primary concern and Comatrol's proportional flow valves are designed with that in mind" said Darren Magner, Marketing Manager.

EasyValve(TM) 2.0

Comatrol has invested in expert tools to streamline the design process, lowering turn-around time and improving product specification quality. Comatrol's suite of HIC design and prototyping tools, including our free design software EasyValve(TM), takes custom hydraulic integrated control solutions to the next level, allowing you to get involved at the very beginning of the design stage all the way through to installation.

The intuitive user interface of EasyValve(TM) allows the engineer to efficiently create hydraulic circuit schematics by simply dragging and dropping from Comatrol's complete digital library of cartridge valves, Cetop valves and accessories. Engineers can capture their technical, commercial and application requirements to accurately document and communicate their custom HIC needs - allowing them to get exactly what they want from the first drawing, reducing the prototype cycle time by 50 percent.
