World of Asphalt 2009 and AGG1 2009 Shows: The Place to be for Targeted Industry Education

Innovation, technology, sustainability among featured topics

Educational opportunities will abound at the 2009 World of Asphalt Show and Conference and 2009 AGG1 Aggregates Forum and Expo to meet the specific learning needs of industry professionals in the aggregates, asphalt, highway maintenance and traffic safety sectors.

The co-located shows will be held March 9-12, 2009 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida.

Attendees can take advantage of a broad array of industry-developed education that provides practical, ready-to-use operational and management strategies and techniques. Advance registration for the shows' exhibits and education is open as of October 1, and registering in advance can save money and time.

The AGG1 Academy will offer aggregates-related learning opportunities in areas including operations, safety, environment, technology, management and community relations.

The People, Plants and Paving Training Program will cover the latest methods in asphalt paving and production efficiencies. And, the Asphalt Pavement Alliance (APA) Asphalt Pavement Conference will focus on the design, construction and sustainability of HMA pavements.

Show attendees can participate in a nationally recognized traffic management and work zone safety conference being held with World of Asphalt and AGG1, hosted by the American Road and Transportation Builders Association-Transportation Development Foundation (ARTBA-TDF).

And, the Asphalt Emulsion Manufacturers Association (AEMA) is holding a workshop in conjunction with the shows on asphalt emulsion technologies for sensible pavement asset management.

To meet the changing needs of the workplace, there will be a Spanish-language supervisory development workshop. Another workshop, in English, will help contractors learn Spanish, with a focus on industry terminology. A worker-certification program will also be held, the OSHA 10-Hour Course for Construction Workers, a safety program developed by the U.S. Department of Labor.

Many of the education sessions offer CEU Continuing Education Credits or certificates of attendance to document Professional Development Hours.

AGG1 Academy - Education for the Aggregates Industry

AGG1 show owner, the National Stone, Sand and Gravel Association (NSSGA), created the AGG1 Academy to bring together all of NSSGA's educational events into one comprehensive knowledge-sharing experience for professionals associated with the aggregates industry.

The AGG1 Academy will be held March 10-12, 2009 with 48 sessions offered. Expert presentations and panel discussions will cover a variety of topics in multiple disciplines for aggregate producers, suppliers and customers. All types of industry professionals will benefit from the AGG1 education program, from senior executives to plant operators, and from corporate management to family owned and operated businesses.

Among the topic areas are automation, community/government affairs, dredging, drill and shoot, engineering properties and research, environment, equipment management, leadership/ management/human resources, mine planning pit-to-plant, processing, safety and health, transportation and underground mining.

Participants in the AGG1 Academy will receive certificates of attendance to document Professional Development Hours for their continuing education and certification needs.

APA Conference - Sustainability, Design and Construction

The 2009 edition of the Asphalt Pavement Alliance's (APA) Asphalt Pavement Conference is themed "Sustainability, Design and Construction," and will explore sustainability contributions of asphalt paving through recycling, warm-mix asphalt, porous pavements and long-life pavements. Participants will learn how to maximize performance and reduce costs through techniques such as Superpave for local agencies, intelligent compaction, small-project quality assurance, the Bailey method of designing pavements, and thin lift overlays and mix type selection for long-life pavements.

The APA conference will be held March 9-10, 2009 and is geared toward paving professionals in the public and private sectors, including construction managers, project superintendents, inspectors, quality control/quality assurance technicians/managers and others involved in the design, construction and maintenance process.

Participants in the APA Asphalt Pavement Conference will receive certificates of attendance to document Professional Development Hours for their continuing education and certification needs.

People, Plants and Paving - New Innovation, Sustainability Tracks

The People, Plants and Paving Training Program will be held March 10-12, 2009, with education tracks targeted to the professional development needs of paving and plant operators, foremen, superintendents, project managers and owners.

The program includes more than 35 sessions, all aimed at delivering the latest methods to achieve asphalt paving and production efficiencies. Two new tracks will be delivered, one on innovative technologies that can be used in pavement construction and a track on how asphalt fits into the latest hot-button issue of sustainability. Other tracks cover management/leadership development, techniques for optimal plant performance, pavement production trends and practical strategies for operator/crew worksite safety.

Select sessions of the training program will be offered with simultaneous interpretation in Russian and Spanish.

New for the People, Plants and Paving Training Program in 2009 is availability of CEU Continuing Education Credits for attendees.

AEMA - Asphalt Emulsion Technologies for Sensible Pavement Asset Management
The Asphalt Emulsion Manufacturers Association (AEMA) workshop, Asphalt Emulsion Technologies for Sensible Pavement Asset Management, will explore the role of asphalt emulsion technology to extend pavement life at lower life cycle cost.

The workshop will be held March 12, 2009 and targets engineers, contractors, inspectors and other industry personnel. Presenters will discuss current applications, processes and technologies on a variety of topics, including emulsions overview (chemistry, manufacturing); applications overview; pavement design and application; cold paving, cold in place recycling and full depth reclamation; agency perspectives; and testing and storage, chip seal, cold mix and slurry systems.

National Traffic Management and Work Zone Safety Conference

For the first time, the American Road and Transportation Builders Association-Transportation Development Foundation (ARTBA-TDF) will host its National Traffic Management and Work Zone Safety Conference in conjunction with World of Asphalt and AGG1.

Sessions run March 10-12, 2009 and are aimed at knowledge-sharing between industry and government leaders on strategies to enhance the safe and efficient movement of roadway traffic.

Topics include challenges and opportunities of night time construction; accommodating pedestrians, cyclists and persons with disabilities in work zones; complying with new Federal Highway Administration regulations on high visibility clothing and payment for temporary traffic control; avoiding worker runovers and backovers; legal liabilities for traffic control; and new safety and health training programs.
