Patent-pending technology from CleanAIR Systems chosen by prominent global IT provider to reduce emissions

Santa Fe, NM - February 2, 2010 - CleanAIR Systems, the first emissions control manufacturer to develop a compact Tier 4 retrofit product for large diesel and natural gas engines, is pleased to announce the recent installation and commissioning of six E-PODs at a secure east coast data center.

The patent-pending E-POD is an all-in-one emissions control unit utilizing selective catalytic reduction (SCR) coupled with DOCs or DPFs. The product features internal mixing and proprietary closed-loop technology housed within a critical grade, stainless steel silencer shell. Using CleanAIR's non-toxic, iron zeolite-based SCR catalysts, the E-POD offers reductions of NOx, PM, HC and CO.

Working closely with Caterpillar dealer Alban Engine Power Systems of Elkridge, Maryland, CleanAIR Systems designed and manufactured a sophisticated emissions control system incorporating the E-POD and a unique urea delivery system, retrofitted on six diesel 3516C CAT engines rated at 2.5 MW each.

The engines, provided by Alban, were required to meet Virginia DEQ air quality regulations and EPA Tier 4 Interim levels. By installing CleanAIR E-PODs on each of the engines, NOx emissions were reduced by 95%, with CO and HC levels dropping by greater than 90%. The dramatically lower emission levels brings the data center into compliance with air quality regulations and allows for extended engine run times.

To meet tight deadlines, a joint effort between Alban and CleanAIR enabled the companies to produce, deliver and install the systems within a short, three-month time period, making it necessary for CleanAIR to build and ship all units within six weeks. The end-user's compressed project deadline, coupled with existing space restrictions, necessitated that the E-PODs be installed early in the building process, prior to engine installation and completion of the structure. The units were top mounted, allowing the Caterpillar engines to slide in place below each E-POD. By mid-January, the E-PODs were commissioned and operating.

The CleanAIR E-POD was specifically chosen by the end-user, a prominent global IT infrastructure provider, for the following reasons:

- the E-POD enabled their engines to meet strict Tier 4 Interim requirements and regional regulations

- the E-POD can be upgraded in the future to meet Tier 4 Final requirements

- the system offers true closed-loop controls with exact pre- and post-NOx measuring to regulate urea consumption and decrease ammonia slip to extremely low levels

- the E-POD's compact design is the only emissions control product on the market capable of fitting within building space constraints

Testing during commissioning of the CleanAIR E-POD technology shows 95 to 97 percent reduction of NOx emissions in closed-loop operation across all operating loads.
